Preparation, characterization and catalytic properties of vanadium oxides supported on calcined Mg/Al-hydrotalcite

Abstract Vanadium oxide supported on calcined hydrotalcite has been investigated for the oxidehydrogenation of n-butane in the 500–550°C temperature interval. Hydrotalcite (Mg/Al atomic ratio of 2.77), consisting of a single phase only, has been employed as a support precursor. The vanadium catalysts (0–50, referred as wt.-% V 2 O 5 ) were prepared by impregnation of calcined hydrotalcite (450°C) with ammonium metavanadate (in an aqueous solution) or vanadyl acetylacetonate (in a methanolic solution), and then calcined at 600°C for 4 h. Stability analysis of relativistic jets from collapsars and its implications on the short-term variability of gamma-ray bursts

We consider the transverse structure and stability properties of relativistic jets formed in the course of the collapse of a massive progenitor. Our numerical simulations show the presence of a strong shear in the bulk velocity of such jets. This shear can be responsible for a very rapid shear--driven instability that arises for any velocity profile. This conclusion has been confirmed both by numerical simulations and theoretical analysis. The instability leads to rapid fluctuations of the main hydrodynamical parameters (density, pressure, Lorentz factor, etc.). PACAP induces bradycardia in guinea-pig heart by stimulation of atrial cholinergic neurones

Based on previous studies which indicated that pituitary adenylate cyclase activating peptide (PACAP) acts as a positive inotropic and chronotropic substance in different species via the cAMP signal transduction pathway, the objective of the present work was to investigate cAMP-regulated myocardial key proteins in response to PACAP in isolated ventricular cells of the guinea pig. Surprisingly, the two molecular forms of PACAP, PACAP(1-27) and PACAP(1-38), showed no effect on intracellular cAMP-levels, L-type Ca2+ channel current or phosphorylation of troponin inhibitor (TnI) and phospholamban (PLB). Acetylcholine via Muscarinic Receptors Inhibits Histamine Release from Human Isolated Bronchi

Human bronchi were incubated in organ baths to measure histamine release. The calcium ionophore A23187 (10 mumol/L; 1 min) stimulated histamine release by 148 +/- 28% (n = 11) above the prestimulation level but was ineffective in epithelium-denuded bronchi. Neither bradykinin (0.1 mumol/L) nor compound 48/80 (10 micrograms/ml) triggered the release of histamine from epithelium-intact bronchi. Acetylcholine did not affect spontaneous histamine release (about 2 nmol/g x 5 min) but inhibited A23187-evoked histamine release in an atropine-sensitive manner. Receptor phosphorylation does not mediate cross talk between muscarinic M(3) and bradykinin B(2) receptors.

This study examined cross talk between phospholipase C-coupled muscarinic M3and bradykinin B2receptors coexpressed in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. Agonists of either receptor enhanced phosphoinositide signaling (which rapidly desensitized) and caused protein kinase C (PKC)-independent, homologous receptor phosphorylation. Muscarinic M3but not bradykinin B2receptors were also phosphorylated after phorbol ester activation of PKC. We present a new adaptive genuinely multidimensional method within the framework of the discontinuous Galerkin method. The discontinuous evolution Galerkin (DEG) method couples a discontinuous Galerkin formulation with approximate evolution operators. The latter are constructed using the bicharacteristics of multidimensional hyperbolic systems, such that all of the infinitely many directions of wave propagation are considered explicitly. Fuel cell modelling for power supply systems design

Today academic and industrial research is addressed on fuel cell based power supply to replace current lithium-ion and similar rechargeable battery systems. For system simulation, fuel cell models are developed. Even if power electronics designers demand for a blackbox model to limit the knowledge of physical and chemical parameters, high performance in terms of model accuracy and portability is absolutely necessary. A steady state and dynamic fuel cell model oriented to power supply systems design is proposed and, as an example, the implementation on PSIM software is presented. Simulation and experimental results are compared and the model portability is discussed. ©2008 IEEE.
