Development and preliminary validation of the contextual connection scale for adolescents (CCSA)
2009
This paper presents the development and validation of the Échelle d'affiliation contextuelle pour adolescents (EACA; Contextual Connection Scale for Adolescents, CCSA) within the framework of Bronfenbrenner's bioecological model (1995). This instrument comprises three subscales measuring connections in three different contexts: family, school, and peers. Two studies have been conducted with 1959 French adolescents to (1) test and confirm a three factor structure one factor per context and (2) evaluate criterion validity. The results show that this scale has good psychometric qualities and provides original and relevant materials for research and application.

The Formation of a Collective Identity Through Expressions of ‘Love’ and ‘Hate’: An Exploratory Analysis of the Discourse of Football Fans in Germany…
2021
International audience; Football is an exemplary platform where the social dynamics within and between societies can be regularly observed. In addition, online message boards are a rich resource of everyday expressions where football fans express their ‘love’ of their clubs as well as their ‘disdain’ for others. We conducted a qualitative content analysis during two seasons of Olympique de Marseille and FC Bayern Munich as well as Toulouse FC and Hannover 96. Our analysis illustrates that hateful expressions that differentiate groups are much more prevalent and therefore more determinant in the formation of a collective identity. Furthermore, the analysis confirms that the self-conception c…
Il Bingo. Consociazioni fra disaffiliati in una sala giochi siciliana
2017
Analysing customers attending a Sicilian Bingo hall, the article identifies a subsidiary kind of sociability for those people who, due to traumatic events such as losing a job, the death of a spouse or divorce, have experienced a progressive estrangement from their usual social life, and the consequent weakening or loss of bonds of solidarity. The concepts of «consociation» and «disaffiliation» are the interpretative frames of analysis adopted by the author to examine the material collected from 30 semi-structured interviews with players selected from a larger sample of 160 frequent customers of the Bingo hall in the city of Marsala. The Bingo hall allows the creation of alternative forms o…
Social effects of interpersonal synchronization during listening to music compared to a metronome: What can we learn from implicit measures?
2016
Interpersonal coordination, such as simultaneous rhythmic movement, is a fundamental way to form socioemotional connections. The social and emotional power of music might further strengthen such interpersonal bonds. Here, we tested if interpersonal synchronization (synchronous vs. asynchronous finger-tapping) affects sympathy and helpfulness more strongly when listening to music compared to a metronome. We tested 40 participants and used an explicit and an implicit measure to assess their social orientation toward a tapping partner (i.e., one of two experimenters). Participants directly rated the friendliness of the experimenter on a 9-point Likert scale. As a more indirect or implicit meas…
