Prognostic Parameters in Renal Cell Carcinoma - a New Approach(1)

The prognostic potential of the parameters TNM staging, Robson staging, grading, cell type, growth pattern, and patient age was investigated for 431 patients with operated renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In the individual analyses, staging and grading attained the best results, whereby Robson staging proved to be superior to TNM staging by comparison. Morphological parameters had a more modest effect on the prognosis, but this should not be underestimated. A scale of points based on a comparative biometric evaluation of the various parameters was devised. PURPOSE To analyse retrospectively the indications, technique and results of radiologically induced gastrostomies or enterostomies. PATIENTS AND METHOD Radiologically assisted gastrostomies or enterostomies were induced in 90 patients, mostly with high grade obstructions due to head and neck tumours or oesophageal tumours. 19/90 patients had had previous resection of the oesophagus or gastric operations. RESULTS A catheter was successfully introduced in all patients. In 11/90 patients this was followed by a two-stage procedure. Zur Diagnostik atherosklerotischer Läsionen der extrakraniellen Arteria carotis mit Duplexsonographie und IA-DSA

Fifty patients were studied prospectively. The extracranial portions of the carotid arteries were examined by duplex sonography and IA-DSA in order to demonstrate haemodynamically significant stenoses or plaques which might give rise to emboli and the findings compared with the pathologic specimens. The results indicate high sensitivity (up to 90%) for more than 75% detection of stenoses. On the other hand ulceration was diagnosed sonographically with an accuracy of 66% and plaque hemorrhage with an accuracy of 56%.

Advances have been made in identifying how areas involved in processing vestibular, ocular motor, and visual information are represented in the human cortex as well as the cortical interaction between these systems in healthy subjects.While we know how some vestibular and ocular motor disorders modify visuo-vestibular interaction by changing the 'normal' cortical activation-deactivation patterns, it is still early days in functional magnetic resonance imaging studies of patients with specific disorders.
