Effects of mountain grassland maturity stage and grazing management on carotenoids in sward and cow's milk

Carotenoids are involved in the sensorial and nutritional values of dairy products. In grazing systems, both herbage maturity stage and grazing management may affect the amount of carotenoid ingested, thus these factors may affect carotenoid concentrations in milk. Two homogenous plots of mountain grassland (1.4 and 2.0 ha) were grazed during two cycles of growth by 6 dairy cows in mid lactation, in strip (SG) and rotational grazing (RG), respectively. We monitored the changes in carotenoid concentrations in sward and milk, measured by HPLC twice a week. Facilitated transport of diuron and glyphosate in high copper vineyard soils.

6 pages; International audience; The fate of organic herbicides applied to agricultural fields may be affected by other soil amendments, such as copper applied as a fungicide. The effect of copper on the leaching of diuron and glyphosate through a granitic and a calcareous soil was studied in the laboratory using sieved-soil columns. Each soil was enriched with copper sulfate to obtain soil copper concentrations of 125, 250, 500, and 1000 mg kg(-1). Glyphosate leaching was influenced by soil pH and copper concentration, whereas diuron leaching was not. International audience; This work is the first report on the use of DNA-, RNA-SIP approaches to elucidate the dynamics and the diversity of bacterial populations actively assimilating C derived from plant residues labelled at more than 90% (13)C. Wheat-residues, were incorporated and incubated into soil microcosms for 28 days. At the end of the incubation time, no more than 55% of the total CO(2) released was (13)C-labelled, suggesting the occurrence of an important priming effect process. Biofonctionnements des sols tropicaux et mode de gestion des terres

L'effet de la symbiose mycorhizienne sur la croissance du mil a été étudié en conditions contrôlées. Le sol collecté au sud du Sénégal dans un champ cultivé et dans une jachère de 17 ans a été mélangé et stérilisé. Il a ensuite été inoculé avec le #Glomus aggregatum$. La croissance de plants de mil cultivés sur ce sol a été comparée à une série témoin, cultivée sur sol non inoculé. La mycorhization des racines de mil a été faible. Elle n'a pas provoqué de réaction de stimulation de croissance. Cette absence de réponse pourrait s'expliquer par l'utilisation d'une souche exotique et non d'une souche indigène de champignon mycorhizien. (Résumé d'auteur)

International audience; Thirty lactating dairy cows were used in a 333 Latin-square design to investigate the effects of a raw or extruded blend of linseed and wheat bran (70:30) on plasma and milk fatty-acids (FA). Linseed diets, containing 16.6% linseed blend on a dry-matter basis, decreased milk yield and protein percentage. They decreased the proportions of FA with less than 18 carbons in plasma and milk and resulted in cis -9, cis -12, cis -15 18:3 proportions that were more than three and four times higher in plasma and milk, respectively, whereas cis -9, cis -12 18:2 proportions were decreased by 10–15%. National audience; The Celluloïd taste observed in some mould-ripened cheeses is bound to the presence of styrene in these cheeses. The accumulation of this molecule was only detected on cultures of some strains of Penicillium camemberti. It seems to be bound to a deregulation of oxidative metabolism of tneee strains.; L'apparition du goût de Celluloïd dans les fromages à pâte molle à croûte fleurie est liée à la présence de styrène dans ces fromages. L'accumulation de cette molécule n'est observée que sur des cultures de souches particulières de Penicillium camemberti. Elle semble liée à un dérèglement du métabolisme oxydatif de ces souches.
