This article describes a project called “The art based methods in developing transversal competence” funded by The Finnish National Board of Education. The article is based on the hermeneutic phenomenological approach in action research. The project developed learning environments as well as project-based learning with emphasis on the art-based methods and transversal competence approach to learning. Tämän pro-gradu tutkielman tarkoitus on selvittää opettajien käsityksiä ja uskomuksia maahanmuuttajaoppilaista englannin ja ruotsin kielten oppijoina sekä maahanmuuttajaoppilaiden käsityksiä omasta vieraiden kielten oppimisestaan. Lisäksi tarkastelen miten maahanmuuttajaoppilaat on otettu huomioon suomalaisen koulun arjessa ja opetuksessa ja millaisia tietoja ja taitoja opettajilla on kohdata maahanmuuttajaoppilaita. This thesis investigates public art and art festivals in the West, and a large scale art project in Japan, Benesse Art Site Naoshima, which is yet to be defined its place in the academic world. Through the case study of Benesse Art Site Naoshima, public art, site-specific art, art festivals, and a role of art museums are discussed. Museum coloniality : displaying Asian art in the whitened context

The transformation of Musée Guimet and the transition of museums in the ‘countries of origin’ of its collections elucidates how white-cube crystallises Western cultural hegemony by erasing the colonial past of the objects and by representing the physical form of modernity. It contributes as well to nullifying the demand of repatriation, which seems to merely raise new power struggles rather than to recover indigenous beliefs (or identities). Through such a muséographie, the deities of the Other are ‘elevated’ from ethnographic specimen into art in the West while ‘diminished’ from sacred icons into art or historical artefacts in Asia.
