Since 2011, Russian ‘licensing civil society’ 1 has predominated through censorship and the restrictive regulation of arts and cultural societies. The current conservative project has turned artistic space into public space, indicating moral abuse and a threat to the spiritual health of the Russian nation. How can design be socially engaged and politically efficient, as proposed by discourses labeled as critical design? This article introduces a conceptualization and historiography of politically charged design discourse based on philosopher Jacques Rancière’s work on the intersections of politics, aesthetics, and critical artistic practices. By focusing especially on Rancière’s reading of the genealogy of design from Ruskin to constructivism and the Bauhaus, the article aims to show that there is an important connection between design and politics present in Rancière’s thought. ‘Teachers see nothing’ : exploring students’ and teachers’ perspectives on school bullying with a new arts-based methodology

Even though bullying is a perennial problem, there are still significant gaps in the research. The sensitive nature of the issue prompted us to develop and test a new arts-based method – a set of incomplete, problem-focused comic strips that were given to the participants for creative completion and were subsequently used as individualised interview prompts. The study took place in Russia with 14 teachers and 39 school children. The findings indicated that students and teachers agreed that instances of bullying should not be reported. Applying a Data Quality Model to Experiments in Software Engineering

Data collection and analysis are key artifacts in any software engineering experiment. However, these data might contain errors. We propose a Data Quality model specific to data obtained from software engineering experiments, which provides a framework for analyzing and improving these data. We apply the model to two controlled experiments, which results in the discovery of data quality problems that need to be addressed. We conclude that data quality issues have to be considered before obtaining the experimental results.

A completely automated CAD system for mass detection in a large mammographic database.

Mass localization plays a crucial role in computer-aided detection (CAD) systems for the classification of suspicious regions in mammograms. In this article we present a completely automated classification system for the detection of masses in digitized mammographic images. The tool system we discuss consists in three processing levels: (a) Image segmentation for the localization of regions of interest (ROIs). Exudate-based diabetic macular edema detection in fundus images using publicly available datasets

International audience; Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a common vision threatening complication of diabetic retinopathy. In a large scale screening environment DME can be assessed by detecting exudates (a type of bright lesions) in fundus images. In this work, we introduce a new methodology for diagnosis of DME using a novel set of features based on colour, wavelet decomposition and automatic lesion segmentation. These features are employed to train a classifier able to automatically diagnose DME through the presence of exudation. Kvalifikācijas darba mērķis ir izstrādāt Arduino bāzētu Modulāru MIDI sintezatoru un pielāgot bezvadu datu pārraides protokolu datu apmaiņai starp sintezatora moduļiem, kuros ietilpst skaņas sintēzes moduļi, kontrolieri un MIDI interfeisi. Darbs ir izstrādāts Arduino vidē, C valodā ar C++ tipa klašu implementāciju bibliotēku formā. Darbā iekļauti izstrādātie dokumenti, programmatūras prasību specifikācija, programmatūras projektējuma apraksts un pielikumā pievienoti izstrādāto moduļu programmatūras kodu fragmenti.

Bakalaura darba uzdevums ir mājas apstākļos izveidot datortīklu, kurā saņemtā Interneta Protokola televīzijas plūsma pirms nonākšanas televīzijas iekārtā tiek pārraidīta bezvadu tīkla, tādējādi ļaujot izvairīties no papildu tīkla kabeļu ievilkšanas. Mērķis ir šajā tīklā panākt efektīvu datu plūsmu bez tīkla traucējumiem un citiem nevēlamiem blakusefektiem. Mērķa sasniegšanai darbā pētīti un izmēģināti vairāki tīkla konfigurācijas varianti, analizēta televīzijas plūsmas ietekme uz pārējo bezvadu tīklu, kā arī aprakstītas novērotās sekas un to iespējamie cēloņi.
