Computer assisted techniques for the incremental forming technology

The Asymmetric single point incremental forming (ASPIF) is a manufacturing technology with a high degree of novelty. Even if there are a significant number of research results reported in the literature, the industry has not been very enthusiastic to adopt and implement it on large scale. One of the main reasons for that is the lack of specific computer aided techniques and tools, which could be used to design and optimize the ASPIF process. Innovative sheet metal forming processes: numerical simulations and experimental tests

Abstract In this paper, computer aided engineering of some innovative sheet metal forming processes is reviewed. In particular, tube hydroforming processes and spinning processes are examined. Advanced numerical tools are utilized with the aim to design proper forming operations able to produce sound components. Furthermore, as far as the spinning process is concerned, experimental verifications are carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the numerical predictions.

The appearance of the 802.11e standard made the 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs) capable of providing different levels of quality of service (QoS). This standard defines two new channel access mechanisms (CAMs), namely the enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) and the HCF controlled channel access (HCCA). Electric conduction in solids: a pedagogical approach supported by laboratory measurements and computer modelling environments

In this paper we present a pedagogic approach aimed at modeling electric conduction in semiconductors, built by using NetLogo, a programmable modeling environment for building and exploring multi‐agent systems. ‘Virtual experiments’ are implemented to confront predictions of different microscopic models with real measurements of electric properties of matter, such as resistivity. The relations between these electric properties and other physical variables, like temperature, are, then, analyzed.

An Object-Oriented Approach to Discrete-Event Simulation Applied to Underground Railway Systems

This paper describes the implementation of an object-oriented simulator that supports the determination of timetables and the design of on-line control policies for underground rail way systems. The simulator has been developed on the basis of a new approach to object- oriented modelling. Such an approach has been used to design a development tool that supports the generation of simulation codes and is able to automatically define the skeleton of a code.

Computer aided photoelasticity by an optimum phase stepping method

In this paper an automated photoelastic method based on the phase stepping technique is described. It provides full-field maps of the isoclinic parameter and the relative retardation. The technique is based on processing six images of a photoelastic specimen acquired using plane and circularly polarized light. The number of acquisitions and the type of polariscope used in this approach have been chosen with the aim at reducing the influence of quarter wave plate errors and obtaining raw photoelastic data in a periodic form suitable for easy applications of automatic unwrapping routines.
