Global 1-Forms and Vector Fields
2014
In this chapter we recall some fundamental facts concerning holomorphic 1-forms on compact surfaces: Albanese morphism, Castelnuovo–de Franchis Lemma, Bogomolov Lemma. We also discuss the logarithmic case, which is extremely useful in the study of foliations with an invariant curve. Finally we recall the classification of holomorphic vector fields on compact surfaces. All of this is very classical and can be found, for instance, in [2, Chapter IV] and 24, 35].
Kodaira dimension of holomorphic singular foliations
2000
We introduce numerical invariants of holomorphic singular foliations under bimeromorphic transformations of surfaces. The basic invariant is a foliated version of the Kodaira dimension of compact complex manifolds.
Stabilization of the cohomology of thickenings
2016
For a local complete intersection subvariety $X=V({\mathcal I})$ in ${\mathbb P}^n$ over a field of characteristic zero, we show that, in cohomological degrees smaller than the codimension of the singular locus of $X$, the cohomology of vector bundles on the formal completion of ${\mathbb P}^n$ along $X$ can be effectively computed as the cohomology on any sufficiently high thickening $X_t=V({\mathcal I^t})$; the main ingredient here is a positivity result for the normal bundle of $X$. Furthermore, we show that the Kodaira vanishing theorem holds for all thickenings $X_t$ in the same range of cohomological degrees; this extends the known version of Kodaira vanishing on $X$, and the main new…

Muscle and bone mass in middle‐aged women : role of menopausal status and physical activity
2020
Background. Women experience drastic hormonal changes during midlife due to the menopausal transition. Menopausal hormonal changes are known to lead to bone loss and potentially also to loss of lean mass. The loss of muscle and bone tissue coincide due to the functional relationship and interaction between these tissues. If and how physical activity counteracts deterioration in muscle and bone during the menopausal transition remains partly unresolved. This study investigated differences between premenopausal, early perimenopausal, late perimenopausal, and postmenopausal women in appendicular lean mass (ALM), appendicular lean mass index (ALMI), femoral neck bone mineral density (BMD) and T…
Sickness Absence at Work and Supporting Being Present At Work, Among Employees Working Different Shifts in the Forest Industry
2015
Objective: Shift work has negative effects on employee overall health, including sleep disorder, depressive symptoms, and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The association between shift work and the prevalence of sickness absence has been less studied. This study investigated sickness absence among employees working different work shift schedules in the forest industry. Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study used employee (N=636) data from forest industry sick-leave registers. The study population (n=280; women n=90 and men=189) worked five different shifts. Each of the five shifts was analyzed separately for sickness absence rate and the results were compared using independent…
Health and social care educators' ethical competence.
2020
Background and purpose Educators’ ethical competence is of crucial importance for developing students’ ethical thinking. Previous studies describe educators’ ethical codes and principles. This article aims to widen the understanding of health- and social care educators’ ethical competence in relation to core values and ethos. Theoretical background and key concepts The study is based on the didactics of caring science and theoretically links the concepts ethos and competence. Methods Data material was collected from nine educational units for healthcare and social service in Finland. In total 16 semi-structured focus group interviews with 48 participants were conducted. The interviews were …
Johtajien työholismin pysyvyys ja yhteys työhyvinvointiin
2016
"Save the Night" : light footprint, urbanism and territorial governance
2010
Our society maintains a complex relation with night, space-time often outside the diurnal cadences which facilitates the reflection, the imagination, the creation, the listening and the link with the other one, while revealing the segregation, the fear, and thus the restriction. By this research, we put compared to the urban lighting – real light project carrier of a strong symbolism – the socio-cultural, ecological and sanitary costs engendered by the artificial light. The urban lighting generates a geographical interlacing of bright imprints of differentiated scales, which we approach by various modellings, without forbidding us the sensitive analysis. We clarify, at various scales, the g…
