Usability analysis and visualization of Web 2.0 applications

Nowadays companies and home users use Web sites offering services ranging from Web sites up to complex Web applications. Often the ergonomics of these applications remains unconsidered and they turn out to be hard to use. In order to examine the usability from within the Web applications, information about the usage of the application is collected. The techniques that have been used in the past for Web 1.0 are no longer adequate. Ajax programs (Web 2.0) are more flexible and require other techniques. This paper shows techniques for collection, analysis, processing and visualization of data for Web 2.0 applications.

The Web is relentlessly evolving. Once a single interconnection of static, physically distributed content passively accessed by human users through personal computers, during the explosion of Web-based social networks the Web evolved into an environment allowing users worldwide to interact and collaborate to create user-generated content within many virtual communities. Www-sovelluskehitys Vaadin-kehyksellä

Tämä tutkielma käsittelee suomalaista WWW-sovelluskehystä Vaadinta. Se on palvelinpohjainen Java-kehys rikkaiden WWW-sovellusten kehittämiseen. Tutkielmassa esitellään myös WWW-kehyksiä yleisesti sekä WWW-kehysten yleensä käyttämä MVC-arkkitehtuuri. Lisäksi esitellään myös Vaatimen käyttämät tekniikat: AJAX, UIDL, JSON ja DOM sekä kuinka Vaadin niitä käyttää. Vaatimesta käydään läpi käyttöliittymäkomponentit, tapahtumien käsittely, tietomalli ja ulkoasun muokkaus. Lopuksi esitellään Vaatimen käyttöä esimerkkisovelluksen avulla.
