Distribution of CGRP-like immunoreactivity in the chick and quail brain
2000
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-containing neurones have been implicated in the transmission of visceral sensory information to the cortex and in the control of arterial blood pressure in mammals. However, little is known about its function in other vertebrates. As a first step toward investigating the function of CGRP in birds, its distribution was studied in the domestic chick and quail brain by means of immunocytochemistry, by using antibodies against rat CGRP. The distribution of CGRP immunoreactivity in the chick and quail central nervous system was found to be similar. CGRP-immunoreactive (CGRPi) perikarya were not present in the telencephalon. In the diencephalon, CGRPi perika…
E-2-Benzylidenebenzocycloalkanones. IV. Studies on transmission of substituent effects on 13C NMR chemical shifts of E-2-(X-benzylidene)-1-tetralones…
2005
Abstract Single substituent parameter (SSP) and dual substituent parameter (DSP) analyses were applied to study the transmission of substituent effects on selected 13C NMR chemical shifts of the cyclic chalcone analogues, E-2-(4′-X-benzylidene)-1-tetralones (2) and E-2-(4′-X-benzylidene)-1-benzosuberones (3). In order to study how the geometry of the cyclic chalcone analogues affects the transmission of substituent effects similar investigations with the respective chalcones (4) were also performed. The results obtained earlier with the five-membered analogue E-2-(4′-X-benzylidene)-1-indanones (1) were also involved in the comparisons. Geometry optimization of the unsubstituted 1a, 2a, 3a a…
Speciation of chitosan with low and high molecular weight carboxylates in aqueous solution
2009
Quantitative data on the speciation of chitosan (310 kDa) with low and high molecular weight carboxylates in aqueous solution are reported. The following carboxylic ligands were considered: monocarboxylate (butyrate); dicarboxylates (malonate, succinate, azelate); tricarboxylate (1,2,3-propa- netricarboxylate); tetracarboxylate (1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylate); polyacrylates (2.0 and 20 kDa); polymethacrylate (5.4 kDa). The investigation was performed by potentiometry at t 1/4 25 C, at low ionic strength (without addition of supporting electrolyte) and at I 1/4 0:15 mol L 1 (NaCl). For all the systems the formation of (chitosan)LHi species was found (L 1/4 carboxylic ligand; i 1/4 1 to 4 de…
6-Amino-1-benzyl-4-(4-chloro-phen-yl)-3-(4-pyrid-yl)-1,4-dihydro-pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole-5-carbonitrile.
2008
The crystal structure of the title compound, C25H18ClN5O, was determined in the course of our studies on the synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole as an inhibitor of the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). The compound was prepared via a base-catalysed synthesis from 1-benzyl-3-(4-pyridyl)-1H-pyrazol-5(4H)-one with p-chloroaldehyde and malononitrile. The crystal data obtained were used to generate a three-dimensional pharmacophore model for in silico database screening. The phenyl ring is disordered over two positions, with site occupancy factors of 0.55 and 0.45. The dihedral angles between the 1,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole unit and the chlorophenyl and pyridine rings a…
Malonic acid: A multi-modal bridging ligand for new architectures and properties on molecule-based magnets
2003
Abstract In this work, we show how the design of one-, two- and three-dimensional materials can strongly benefit from the use of crystal engineering techniques, which can give rise to structures of different shapes, and how these differences can give rise to different properties. We will focus on the networks constructed by assembling malonate ligands and metal centres. The idea of using malonate (dianion of propanedioic acid, H 2 mal) is that they can give rise to different coordination modes with the metal ions bind. Extended magnetic networks of dimensionalities 1 (1D), 2 (2D) and 3 (3D) can be chemically constructed from malonato-bridged metallic complexes. These coordination polymers b…
Building-block process for the synthesis of new chromium(iii) malonate complexes
2010
We describe the crystal structures of two bimetallic compounds with the malonate and an exo-polydentate N-donor ligand {[Cu(tren)]4[Cr2(mal)4(OH)2]}(ClO4)4·8H2O (3) and [Ni(Htren)2][Cr2(mal)4(OH)2]·8H2O (4) which are prepared from the dinuclear K4[Cr2(mal)4(OH)2]·6H2O precursor (2) [tren = tris(2-aminoethyl)amine and H2mal = malonic acid]. Their crystal packing and supramolecular structures are analyzed in the context of the influence of the dichromium(III) [Cr2(mal)4(OH)2]4− unit, which acts as a building-block. Different supramolecular motifs built up from hydrogen bonds are discussed, and their self-assembly to yield a 3D arrangement is described. The magnetic properties of the compounds…
Deuterium isotope effect on the induction period of the cerium catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction
2009
Abstract In this work we present results about the deuterium isotopic effect on the global kinetics of a cerium catalyzed Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction. A nonlinear dependence of the induction period upon the percentage of deuterated reactants was found in batch conditions. In order to understand this result, we investigated two reaction pathways responsible for the length of the induction period, namely: (a) the reaction between the enolic form of the malonic acid with molecular bromine and (b) the oxidation of malonic acid by the Ce(IV) ion. In both cases we obtained a linear dependence of the kinetic constants on the percentage of deuterated reactants. Nevertheless, by inserting the expe…
Versatile supramolecular self-assembly : Part II. Network formation and magnetic behaviour of copper(ii) malonate anions in ammonium derivatives
2006
Five new metal–organic compounds of formula An[Cu(mal)2(H2O)m] (A being an amine cation and H2mal = malonic acid) have been structurally and magnetically characterized. The crystal structure of these compounds consists of an alternation of malonate-containing copper(II) anionic and amine cationic layers. Depending on the amine cation, the bis(malonate)cuprate(II) units can be connected to other units through carboxylate bridges resulting in anionic networks which exhibit different topologies: monomers (2 and 5), layers (3 and 4) and three-dimensional structures (1). Hydrogen bonding plays an important role in the self-assembling of metal–organic compounds and how the size of the amine catio…
Syntheses and crystal structures of three novel Cu(II) coordination polymers of different dimensionality constructed from Cu(II) carboxylates (carbox…
2004
Abstract We herein report three new coordination polymers generated from Cu(II) carboxylates (mal, 2ac, fum) and conformationally flexible bifunctional IX as building blocks. All the three complexes adopt unique structures in the solid state. The complex [Cu2(mal)2(IX)2(H2O)6]n crystallizes as orthorhombic co-linear rods with space group P2(1) P2(1) P2(1). Each rod is further formed of two tightly intertwined strings. The second polymer [Cu2(ac)4(IX)2]n crystallizes with space group P1 which consists of two sets of intersecting 2D sheets composed of parallel rods which interpenetrate to form a fully interlocked 3D structure. In both these complexes IX coordinates in the anti mode. The third…
Up-regulation of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate synthase enhances production of essential oils in transgenic spike lavender.
2006
Abstract Spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia) is an aromatic shrub cultivated worldwide for the production of essential oils. The major constituents of these oils are monoterpenes, which are obtained from isopentenyl diphosphate and dimethylallyl diphosphate precursors through the plastidial methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway and/or the cytosolic mevalonate pathway. 1-Deoxy-d-xylulose-5-P synthase (DXS) catalyzes the first step of the MEP pathway. A cDNA coding for the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) DXS was constitutively expressed in spike lavender. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analyses revealed that transgenic plants accumulated significantly more essential oils compared…
