Mechanism of excited state deactivation of indan-1-ylidene and fluoren-9-ylidene malononitriles.
2016
Herein, we report complementary computational and experimental evidence supporting the existence, for indan-1-ylidene malononitrile and fluoren-9-ylidene malononitrile, of a non-radiative decay channel involving double bond isomerisation motion. The results of UV-Vis transient absorption spectroscopy highlight that the decay takes place within hundreds of picoseconds. In order to understand the related molecular mechanism, photochemical reaction paths were computed by employing multiconfigurational quantum chemistry. The results indicate that the excited state deactivation occurs via concerted double bond twisting of the dicyanovinyl (DCV) unit coupled with a pyramidalisation of its substit…
Mixed Dialkylaluminum Chlorides and Mixed Trimethylorganoaluminates in Chemoselective 1,4 Addition Reactions to Alkylidene Malonic Acid Diethyl Ester
2000
Mixed alkyl-methyl- and aryl-methylorganoaluminum chlorides 6 were formed by reaction of methylaluminum dichloride with organolithium or Grignard compounds and used for chemoselective 1,4 addition of higher alkyl, aryl, alkenyl and alkinyl groups to alkylidine malonic esters 1 and 2. As an alternative, mixed trimethylorganoaluminates 7 can also be applied for these Michael addition reactions. For conjugate addition of alkenyl groups to alkylidene malonates 1 and 2, alkenyl diisopropylalanes 10 obtained from alkynes and diisopropylaluminum hydride proved the most efficient reagents. Using these novel mixed organoaluminum compounds, β-branched malonic (carboxylic) acid derivatives 3c, 8, 9 an…
Total Synthesis of (-)-C/D-cis-Dehydro-3-O-methyl-estradiols
2015
A convergent synthesis of (–)-dehydro-3-O-methyl-C/D-cis-estradiol started from stereochemically defined substituted optically active 3-(2-arylethyl)-γ-butyrolactones. Regioselective bromination of the anisyl moiety, reductive ring opening of the iodolactone, and protecting-group changes led to a Weinreb amide. This then underwent an intramolecular Grignard reaction closing the B-ring to give a tetralone with defined configuration. Introduction of C-11 through an allyl Grignard addition and subsequent ring-closing metathesis gave a tetrahydro phenanthrene derivative. Oxidation of the side-chain alcohol resulted in the key aldehyde group, and a final samarium-diiodide-mediated reductive D-ri…
The mechanism of the antioxidant effect of smoked paprika from La Vera, Spain
2013
This study aimed at further investigating the antioxidant effect of smoked paprika (Pimenton La Vera, Spain) in healthy subjects. Crossover study included male students (age 20.6 ± 1.7 years) who consumed smoked or non-smoked paprika (2 g/day, 20 times, over 30 days). After ingestion of smoked paprika, plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were significantly (p < 0.01) reduced versus basal and non-smoked paprika ingestion values. Reduced glutathione (GSH) levels were increased and oxidised glutathione (GSSG) levels reduced significantly (p < 0.05) in paired subjects after consumption of smoked paprika. Smoked paprika significantly increased mRNA levels of glutathione peroxidase and cytochrome…
Interaction of Alkyltin(IV) Compounds with Ligands of Interest in the Speciation of Natural fluids: Complexes of (CH3)2Sn2+ with Carboxylates
1997
Complex formation by (CH3)2Sn 2+ with acetate (ac), malonate (mal), 1,2,3-propanetricarboxylate (tricarballylate, tca) and 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylate (btc) ligands in aqueous solution is reported. The study has been performed by potentiometry ([H + ]‐glass electrode) at T = 25 °C, and in the 0 < I < 1 mol dm 2 3 ionic strength range. In order to evaluate the salt effects on the formation constants of the complex species, and to contribute to the definition of the chemical speciation of diorganotin(IV) compounds in natural waters where carboxylic ligands are naturally present, interactions of NaCl (which is the major component of all natural fluids), with the components of the systems un…
Structure and luminescence properties of supramolecular polymers of amphiphilic aromatic thioether–peptide conjugates in water
2019
We present the preparation of luminophore–peptide conjugates that self-assemble into supramolecular polymers in neutral buffer. To this end, we have prepared a small library of six conjugates with varying substitution patterns of the aromatic thioethers, as well as varying amino acid sequences. The latter have allowed us to tune the thermodynamic driving force for self-assembly and probe their photoluminescent properties either in the monomeric or polymeric state, while fully avoiding selective solvent techniques or organic solvent mixtures. All of the supramolecular structures were characterised with transmission electron microscopy, circular dichroism measurements, as well as steady-state…
Malonate-based copper(II) coordination compounds: Ferromagnetic coupling controlled by dicarboxylates
2003
Studies on structural and magnetic properties of polynuclear transition metal complexes, aimed at understanding the structural and chemical factors governing electronic exchange coupling mediated by multiatom bridging ligands, are of continuing interest to design new molecular materials exhibiting unusual magnetic, optical and electrical properties, bound to their molecular nature. Looking at potentially flexible bridging ligands, the malonate group seems a suitable candidate. The occurrence of two carboxylate groups in the 1,3 positions allows this ligand to adopt simultaneously chelating bidentate and different carboxylato bridging modes (syn–syn, anti–anti and syn–anti trough one or two …
Novel malonate-containing coordination compounds with ligands having N-And NO-donors: Synthesis, structures, and magnetic properties
2012
In our efforts to tune the structures of mixed-ligands malonate-containing coordination compounds, four copper(II) and two high-spin cobalt(II) complexes of formulas [Cu(mal)(H 2O)(dpo)] n (1), [Cu 2(mal) 2(H 2O) 2(dpp)] n · 7nH 2O (2), [Cu 2(mal) 2(H 2O) 2-(bpe)] n · 2nH 2O (3), {[Cu(mal) 2(H 2O) 2][Cu(dien)]} n · 4nH 2O (4)[Co 2(mal) 2(H 2O) 6(dpo)] ·2H 2O(5) and [Co(mal)(H 2O)(phen)] n · 2nH 2O (6) [H 2mal = malonic acid, dpo =4,4'-bipyridine-N,N'-dioxide, dpp = 2,3-bis(pyridyl)pyrazine, bpe =1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene, dien = diethylenetriamine and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline] have been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction on single crystals. Complexes 1, 2, 4,…
