From single fiber to macro-level mechanics: A structural finite-element model for elastomeric fibrous biomaterials
2014
In the present work, we demonstrate that the mesoscopic in-plane mechanical behavior of membrane elastomeric scaffolds can be simulated by replication of actual quantified fibrous geometries. Elastomeric electrospun polyurethane (ES-PEUU) scaffolds, with and without particulate inclusions, were utilized. Simulations were developed from experimentally-derived fiber network geometries, based on a range of scaffold isotropic and anisotropic behaviors. These were chosen to evaluate the effects on macro-mechanics based on measurable geometric parameters such as fiber intersections, connectivity, orientation, and diameter. Simulations were conducted with only the fiber material model parameters a…
1,2,4-Triazole Schiff base directed synthesis of polynuclear iron complexes: Investigating the magnetic properties going from a dimer to a 1D chain t…
2018
Abstract Based on two functionalized Schiff base ligands 4-(1H-imidazol-5-ylmethylene-amino)-4H-1,2,4-triazole (imztrz) and 4-(p-tolylidene-amino)-4H-1,2,4-triazole (toltrz), a series of three triazole based polynuclear Fe complexes has been prepared. Compounds {[FeII(toltrz)2(C2O4)]·10H2O}n (1) and {[FeII(5-imztrz)(C2O4)]·2H2O}n (2) are oxalate bridged FeII complexes with 1 showing a linear 1D chain structure and 2 exhibiting a zigzag chain based 3D interpenetrating framework. Both structures show rather big voids in the 3D architecture (∼15% of the crystal volume). Compound (5-imztrzH)2[FeIII2(cit4−)2(H2O)2]·6H2O (3) is a binuclear FeIII complex bridging by two citrate ligands to form a f…
Second Harmonic Generation via Random Quasi-phase Matching in a Periodically Poled Lithium Tantalate Waveguide
2011
We observe second harmonic generation via random quasi phase matching in a 1.5μm periodically poled lithium tantalate. The presence of a slab waveguide allows the comparison between bulk and guided wave configurations.
GENERAZIONE DI SECONDA ARMONICA IN GUIDA D’ONDA IN TANTALATO DI LITIO CONGRUENTE CON POLING PERIODICO E CONVERSIONE DI LUNGHEZZA D’ONDA IN BANDA C + L
2010
Here we show the results obtained by the characterization of a lithium-tantalate based device for second-harmonic-generation and all-optical wavelength conversion. The waveguides have been obtained by proton-exchange in a periodically-poled congruent lithium tantalate substrate.
Genetic organization of the mle locus and identification of a mleR-like gene from Leuconostoc oenos
1996
Characterization of the mle locus harboring the malolactic enzyme gene mleA and malate permease gene mleP from Leuconostoc oenos was completed in this study by mRNA analysis. Northern (RNA) blot experiments revealed a 2.6-kb transcript, suggesting an operon structure harboring mleA and mleP genes. Primer extension analysis showed that the mle operon has a single transcription start site located 17 nucleotides upstream of the ATG translation start site for the mleA gene. We found sequences, TTGACT and TATGAT (which are separated by 18 bp), that are closely related to the gram-positive and Escherichia coli consensus promoter sequences. Upstream of the mleA gene, an 894-bp open reading frame t…
Photo-assisted Degradation of 2-Propanol in Gas-Solid Regime by Using TiO2 Impregnated with Heteropolyacids H3PW12O40
2009
Commercial and home prepared TiO2 samples impregnated with tungstophosphoric acid (H3PW12O40) were used for the photo-assisted degradation of 2-propanol in gas–solid regime. The characterization results evidenced a good coverage of the polyoxometalate (POM) onto the surface of TiO2 along with a marginal effect of the presence of the POM on the specific surface area, morphology and cristallinity of the samples. Propene was the main intermediate product revealed in 2-propanol photocatalytic degradation by using as photocatalysts the samples containing the POM, whereas propanone wasmainly obtained when the photocatalysts was bare TiO2, both commercial or home prepared. Acetaldehyde was also fo…
Phthalate esters in coffee brew samples: Analytical method by GC-MS, profile, levels and sources
2012
The present study was aimed to develop a procedure for the analysis of trace concentration of phthalate esters (PEA) in coffee brew stored in plastic cups. Phthalates are esters of phthalic acid, generally have high boiling points, lowvolatility are insoluble in water andpredominantly fat-soluble. Phthalates with higher molecular weights, such as bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) are largely used as additives and plasticizers in plastic material (PVC), while those with lower molecular weights are components of solvents, adhesive, wax, ink, pharmaceutical products, insecticide materials and cosmetic. Dimethyl phthalate and diethyl phthalate are present in plastics based on cellulose esters …
Reprocessing of polyethyleneterephthalate and characterisation of monopolymer blends of virgin and recycled polymers
1997
Recycling of polyethyleneterephthalate (PET from bottles is considered by changing both reprocessing machines and the effect of humidity. The rheological and mechanical properties of this recycled material remain very close to that of the virgin material provided that a careful drying is carried out before any melt operation. The reprocessing has been carried out mainly in view of the use of this secondary material in blends with virgin PET-monopolymer or homopolymer blends. Indeed, this use is a common industrial practice to reuse plastic scraps. Most monopolymer blends show properties between those of the two components but in some cases lower than those expected on the basis of an additi…
La forza del mito
2013
