Abstract From the aerial parts of Artemisia alba (Asteraceae) artalbic acid ( 1 ), a sesquiterpene with an unusual skeleton, was isolated. Its structure was elucidated on the basis of extensive proton, 13 C and two-dimensional NMR experiments, as well as by transformation in its methyl ester derivative.

Artemisia herba-alba is widely used in traditional medicines for the treatment of several diseases. From the aerial parts organic extract of A. herba-alba, two new compounds, 1,3,8-trihydroxyeudesm-4-en-7α,11βH-12,6α-olide (1) and 5-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy-7-methoxy-6H-benzopyran-2-one (2), respectively, together with five known metabolites: 3α,8β-dihydroxygermacr-4(15),9(10)-dien-7β,11αH,12,6α-olide (3), 1β,8α-dihydroxy-11α,13-dihydrobalchanin (4), 11-epiartapshin (5), tomenin (6) and benzoic acid, p-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-methyl ester (7), were isolated and identified. Abstract The structures of two sesquiterpene lactones isolated from Artemisia herba-alba subsp. valentina have been determined by spectroscopic methods. One of these was dihydroreynosin, the other was a new compound assigned the name torrentin. Climate change may influence the phenology of organisms unequally across trophic levels and thus lead to phenological mismatches between predators and prey. In cases where prey availability peaks before reproducing predators reach maximal prey demand, any negative fitness consequences would selectively favor resynchronization by earlier starts of the reproductive activities of the predators. At a study site in northeast Greenland, over a period of 17 years, the median emergence of the invertebrate prey of Sanderling Calidris alba advanced with 1.27 days per year. For the Italo-Albanian reality, the diatopic-diachronic relationship of dialect variation takes on different aspects compared to that experienced in the Italo-Romance reality. This article investigates the political controversies related to the role the international community plays and should play in contemporary Albanian politics through an analysis of the media accounts of the January 21, 2011 demonstration. We analyse opinion articles in the mainstream media and find that there are two representations of the political reality that compete for legitimacy: one in favour of the government and the other against it. The picture that emerges from the media accounts is that events, political action and political personalities are subject to the perceived judgement of external actors, whose confirmation or support is taken as the legitimizing factor.
