Viscosity of n-alcohol binary mixtures

In this paper liquid mixture viscosities at 25 °C for 18 binary systems formed by primary n-alcohols have been measured. These values were fitted to Topological Treatment of Mixtures (T.T.M.) The pure compound topological description is obtained following the DARC system rules. A weighting function was introduced to obtain the topological description of a mixture. The results obtained with this model agree with experimental data (average deviation less than 2% in all cases). Spectrophotometric determination of vitamin C using the copper(II)-nioxime-ascorbic acid system following stabilization in a propylene glycol medium

Abstract A spectrophotometric method for the determination of Vitamin C is proposed. The procedure is based on formation and stabilization of the ternary complex Cu(II)-nioxime-ascorbic acid in 80% ( v v ) propylene glycol-water medium. The method has a high degree of tolerance for the determination of ascorbic acid in the presence of other active substances or excipients likely to be present along with vitamin C in pharmaceutical formulations. The suggested method has proved to be rapid and precise and has been successfully applied to different commercial pharmaceutical preparations of vitamin C. Precision, measured on the relative standard deviation, did not exceed 0.73%.

Different studies indicate that oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage are key factors in different pathogenic process. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective role of alcohol-free beer on adriamycin-induced (ADR) heart and liver toxicity using biomarkers of oxidative stress. Use of dietary supplements and anabolic-androgenic steroids among Finnish adolescents in 1991-2005.

Background : The aim of the study was to describe the prevalence, trends and associated factors of dietary supplements (DS) and anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) use among Finnish adolescents. Methods: The sample comprised 30 511 adolescents aged 12–18 years, of which 22 519 (74%) answered a questionnaire. We also studied associations between 14 socioeconomic, health and health behavioural variables and DS and AAS use by logistic regression. Non-conventional yeasts from fermented honey by-products: Focus on Hanseniaspora uvarum strains for craft beer production

The increasing interest in novel beer productions focused on non-Saccharomyces yeasts in order to pursue their potential in generating groundbreaking sensory profiles. Traditional fermented beverages represent an important source of yeast strains which could express interesting features during brewing. A total of 404 yeasts were isolated from fermented honey by-products and identified as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Wickerhamomyces anomalus, Zygosaccharomyces bailii, Zygosaccharomyces rouxii and Hanseniaspora uvarum.
