Footprint of carbonyl compounds in hand scent by in-tube solid-phase microextraction coupled to nano-liquid chromatography/diode array detection

Abstract In the present work, the footprint of carbonyl compounds in hand scent was achieved by a miniaturized method consisting of sampling with cotton gauze, extraction and derivatization using 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) and preconcentration, separation and detection by in-tube solid-phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled to nano-liquid chromatography/Uv–vis diode array detection. Neonatal representation of odour objects: distinct memories of the whole and its parts

Extraction of relevant information from highly complex environments is a prerequisite to survival. Within odour mixtures, such information is contained in the odours of specific elements or in the mixture configuration perceived as a whole unique odour. For instance, an AB mixture of the element A (ethyl isobutyrate) and the element B (ethyl maltol) generates a configural AB percept in humans and apparently in another species, the rabbit. Representativeness of Extracts of Offset Paper Packaging and Analysis of the Main Odor-Active Compounds

Packagings often carry odors due to the support and printing inks. The aim of the investigation was to define a representative solvent-free extract of paper-based packaging materials printed by the offset process, for the identification of the odor-causing volatile compounds. Static headspace and solid-phase microextraction were the two applied extraction methods. Representativeness tests showed that the odor of the PDMS fiber extract gave satisfying odor similarities with the original packaging. Vanilloid Derivatives as Tyrosinase Inhibitors Driven by Virtual Screening-Based QSAR Models

A number of vanilloids have been tested as tyrosinase inhibitors using Ligand-Based Virtual Screening (LBVS) driven by QSAR (Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship) models as the multi-agent classification system. A total of 81 models were used to screen this family. Then, a preliminary cluster analysis of the selected chemicals was carried out based on their bioactivity to detect possible similar substructural features among these compounds and the active database used in the QSAR model construction. Therapeutic modulation of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2)

Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is a calcium-independent phospholipase A2 that circulates in plasma in association with lipoprotein particles, whereas in atherosclerotic plaques it is co-localized with macrophages. Lp-PLA2 generates two proinflammatory mediators, lysophosphatidylcholine and oxidized nonesterified fatty acids, which play a role in the development of atherosclerotic lesions and formation of a necrotic core, leading to more vulnerable plaques. Understanding the release and metabolism of aroma compounds using micro-volume saliva samples by ex vivo approaches

International audience; This study investigated the behaviour of key aroma compounds in the presence of human saliva (200 mu L) from different individuals (n = 3) submitted or not to centrifugation (whole vs clarified saliva). HS-GC results showed that human saliva strongly decreased the release of carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones). This effect was dependent on i) the structure of the aroma compounds and ii) the saliva composition. Whole saliva exerted a higher effect than clarified saliva on aroma compounds. In previous studies we reported a new photocatalytic system involving polycrystalline TiO2 for the selective functionalisation of heteroaromatic bases with ethers and amides. In order to extend the applications of this new reaction and to better understand the mechanism involved, we have examined aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes as acyl radical sources for the nucleophilic addition to protonated N-heteroarenes in acetonitrile as the solvent and TiO2/H2O2 as the photocatalytic system.
