The Rank of Trifocal Grassmann Tensors

2019

Grassmann tensors arise from classical problems of scene reconstruction in computer vision. Trifocal Grassmann tensors, related to three projections from a projective space of dimension k onto view-spaces of varying dimensions are studied in this work. A canonical form for the combined projection matrices is obtained. When the centers of projections satisfy a natural generality assumption, such canonical form gives a closed formula for the rank of the trifocal Grassmann tensors. The same approach is also applied to the case of two projections, confirming a previous result obtained with different methods in [6]. The rank of sequences of tensors converging to tensors associated with degenerat…

Can (noncommutative) geometry accommodate leptoquarks?

1997

We investigate the geometric interpretation of the Standard Model based on noncommutative geometry. Neglecting the $S_0$-reality symmetry one may introduce leptoquarks into the model. We give a detailed discussion of the consequences (both for the Connes-Lott and the spectral action) and compare the results with physical bounds. Our result is that in either case one contradicts the experimental results.

The Tautological Ring of Spin Moduli Spaces

2009

We introduce the notion of tautological ring for the moduli space of spin curves. Moreover, we study some relations among tautological classes which are motivated by physics. Finally, we show that the Chow rings of these moduli spaces are tautological in low genus.

Semistable Higgs bundles, periodic Higgs bundles and representations of algebraic fundamental groups

2019

Let $k $ be the algebraic closure of a finite field of odd characteristic $p$ and $X$ a smooth projective scheme over the Witt ring $W(k)$ which is geometrically connected in characteristic zero. We introduce the notion of Higgs-de Rham flow and prove that the category of periodic Higgs-de Rham flows over $X/W(k)$ is equivalent to the category of Fontaine modules, hence further equivalent to the category of crystalline representations of the \'{e}tale fundamental group $\pi_1(X_K)$ of the generic fiber of $X$, after Fontaine-Laffaille and Faltings. Moreover, we prove that every semistable Higgs bundle over the special fiber $X_k$ of $X$ of rank $\leq p$ initiates a semistable Higgs-de Rham …

Applications to Algebraic Cycles: Nori's Theorem

2017

Deligne cohomology is a tool that makes it possible to unify the study of cycles through an object that classifies extensions of ( p , p )-cycles by points in the p -th intermediate Jacobian (which is the target of the Abel–Jacobi map on cycles of codimension p ). This is treated in Section 10.1 with applications to normal functions. Before giving the proof of Nori's theorem in Section 10.6, we need some results from mixed Hodge theory. These are proven in Section 10.2 where we also state different variants of the theorem. Sections 10.3 and 10.4 treat a localto- global principle and an extension of the method of Jacobian representations of cohomology which are both essential for the proof. …

General Theory: Algebraic Point of View

2009

It is convenient to divide our study of pip-spaces into two stages. In the first one, we consider only the algebraic aspects. That is, we explore the structure generated by a linear compatibility relation on a vector space V , as introduced in Section I.2, without any other ingredient. This will lead us to another equivalent formulation, in terms of particular coverings of V by families of subspaces. This first approach, purely algebraic, is the subject matter of the present chapter. Then, in a second stage, we introduce topologies on the so-called assaying subspaces \(\{V_r \}\). Indeed, as already mentioned in Section I.2, assuming the partial inner product to be nondegenerate implies tha…

The homotopy Leray spectral sequence

2018

In this work, we build a spectral sequence in motivic homotopy that is analogous to both the Serre spectral sequence in algebraic topology and the Leray spectral sequence in algebraic geometry. Here, we focus on laying the foundations necessary to build the spectral sequence and give a convenient description of its $E_2$-page. Our description of the $E_2$-page is in terms of homology of the local system of fibers, which is given using a theory similar to Rost's cycle modules. We close by providing some sample applications of the spectral sequence and some hints at future work.

Nature log-analytique du volume des sous-analytiques

2000

Using a preparation theorem for subanalytic functions and Lipschitz stratification for compact subanalytic sets we prove that volumes of slices of globally subanalytic sets and density have a log-analytic nature. We also prove that the set of parameters for which the volume of fiber is finite is globally subanalytic.

Algebraic Geometry between Tradition and Future

2023

An incredible season for algebraic geometry flourished in Italy between 1860, when Luigi Cremona was assigned the chair of Geometria Superiore in Bologna, and 1959, when Francesco Severi published the last volume of the treatise on algebraic systems over a surface and an algebraic variety. This century-long season has had a prominent influence on the evolution of complex algebraic geometry - both at the national and international levels - and still inspires modern research in the area. "Algebraic geometry in Italy between tradition and future" is a collection of contributions aiming at presenting some of these powerful ideas and their connection to contemporary and, if possible, future deve…
