Combining Top-down and Bottom-up Visual Saliency for Firearms Localization

Object detection is one of the most challenging issues for computer vision researchers. The analysis of the human visual attention mechanisms can help automatic inspection systems, in order to discard useless information and improving performances and efficiency. In this paper we proposed our attention based method to estimate firearms position in images of people holding firearms. Both top-down and bottom-up mechanisms are involved in our system. The bottom-up analysis is based on a state-of-the-art approach. Much can change in a year: The massawan mantis shrimp, erugosquilla massavensis (Kossmann, 1880) in sicily, Italy

A flourishing population of the Massawan mantis shrimp, Erugosquilla massavensis, an Erythraean species, is recorded off Sicily, Italy, one year after the very first specimen was collected off the eastern coast of the island. The species is already established as a minor, albeit valuable, fishery resource. Once its population increases, however, it may compete with the native Mediterranean spot-tail mantis shrimp, Squilla mantis. This article presents the results of a joint effort between members of the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale of Comiso and local fishermen to monitor non-indigenous species in Sicilian waters.

Contribución al conocimiento de la flora alóctona abulense (Ávila, España)

Se aportan datos corológicos de catorce plantas vasculares presentes en la provincia de Ávila (España). De ellas, cinco son primeras citas provinciales: Chamaesyce prostrata (Aiton) Small, Conyza sumatrensis (Retz.) E. Walker, Helianthus tuberosus L., Melia azedarach L. y Panicum miliaceum L. El resto de plantas vasculares no son muy conocidas en la zona. Additions to the vascular flora of central Italy. Second contribution

In this paper, new floristic records for 55 taxa for central Italy are reported. In particular, 39 taxa are native and 16 aliens, 9 are new or confirmed to Abruzzo, 1 to Marche, 21 to Molise, 16 to Umbria, 1 is excluded from the flora of Abruzzo, 1 from Molise and 1 from Lazio. Furthermore, new distribution data for 2 rare species in Abruzzo and Molise are reported.

Solanum lanceolatum (Solanaceae) in Sicily: A new alien species for the European flora

Solanum lanceolatum Cav. (Solanaceae) is a species native to Central America (Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Panama), that has been found naturalized near Sutera and Porto Empedocle (Sicily). This is the first record in Italy and Europe.

Parasites in sympatric populations of native and invasive freshwater bivalves

An increasing threat to local, native freshwater mussels (Unionida)—an ecologically important but globally alarmingly declining group— is the invasion by exotic bivalves. The Enemy Release Hypothesis predicts that introduced species should benefit from enemy-mediated competition because they are less likely to be harmed by natural enemies, such as parasites, than their native competitors. Paths to the recognition of homo-parental adoptive rights in the EU-27: a QCA analysis

ABSTRACTAlthough the recognition of the adoptive rights of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) couples is a socially salient topic, cross-national variation regarding this issue has been largely underexplored in social science research. With the aid of configurational analysis, this article fills this gap and shows the conditions that explain the recognition of the adoptive rights of homosexual couples in the countries of the EU-27. This paper describes the distribution and spread of the non-indigenous red alga Lophocladia lallemandii (Montagne) F. Schmitz along the coast of the Island of Ischia (Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy). Lophocladia lallemandii was monitored through surveys from July 2019 to January 2020 at the Capo Sant’Angelo (Ischia), where L. lallemandii was observed, but not reported, in the years preceding the invasion of the upper rocky infralittoral shore reported here.
