Groups are not always the same

The idea of supporting group meetings at the same time and at the same place by computer raises the problem of how salient features of group behaviors are understood in meetings. In this paper we take a critical look at several beliefs about group behaviors in research dealing with electronic meeting systems (EMS). The paper argues based on an empirical study that the concept of a small, cohesive business team, so widely held, in all EMS research is not necessarily a valid starting point in thinking of meeting support. The Structure of Group Identification

The concept of group identification has been widely discussed in the fields of social psychology and social ontology. The debate has been somewhat unbalanced, however. The structure, nature, and experiential status of groups have been assessed widely and from several perspectives. Instead, the concept of identification as received considerably less attention. This is why the ongoing debate threatens to be misled by various conceptual ambiguities. These ambiguities concern first and foremost the target, structure, and temporal nature of identification. Multimodal images carry available information that can be complementary, redundant information, and overcomes the various problems attached to the unimodal classification task, by modeling and combining these information together. An Automatic Three-Dimensional Fuzzy Edge Detector

Three-dimensional object analysis is of particular interest in many research fields. In this context, the most common data representation is boundary mesh, namely, 2D surface embedded in 3D space. We will investigate the problem of 3D edge extraction, that is, salient surface regions characterized by high flexure. Our automatic edge detection method assigns a value, proportional to the local bending of the surface, to the elements of the mesh. Moreover, a proper scanning window, centered on each element, is used to discriminate between smooth zones of the surface and its edges. Due to globalisation, trade and transport, the spread of alien species is increasing dramatically. Some alien species become ecologically harmful by threatening native biota. This can lead to irreversible changes in local biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and, ultimately, to biotic homogenisation. We risk-assessed all alien plants, animals, fungi and algae, within certain delimitations, that are known to reproduce in Norway. Mainland Norway and the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard plus Jan Mayen were treated as separate assessment areas. In this paper, we present a pioneering solution to the problem of user grouping and power allocation in Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) systems. There are two fundamentally salient and difficult issues associated with NOMA systems. The first involves the task of grouping users together into the pre-specified time slots. Symmetry is one of the most prominent spatial relations perceived by humans, and has a relevant role in attentive mechanisms regarding both visual and auditory systems. The aim of this paper is to establish symmetry, among the likes of motion, depth or range, as a dynamic feature in artificial vision. Intra-Party Heterogeneity in Policy Preferences and Its Effect on Issue Salience: Evidence from the Comparative Candidates Survey

Quantitative research on the positions of political parties and party competition regularly invokes the assumption that parties are unitary actors with homogenous policy preferences. Drawing on Comparative Candidates Survey (CCS) data from 28 elections in 21 developed democracies, we show that candidates often hold quite heterogeneous issue positions and that the extent of this heterogeneity varies significantly across parties and, most interestingly, even within parties across different issue dimensions. Honeybees can recognise images of complex natural scenes for use as potential landmarks

SUMMARY The ability to navigate long distances to find rewarding flowers and return home is a key factor in the survival of honeybees (Apis mellifera). To reliably perform this task, bees combine both odometric and landmark cues,which potentially creates a dilemma since environments rich in odometric cues might be poor in salient landmark cues, and vice versa.
