The Effects of Low-frequency Vibration on Aligner Treatment Duration: A Clinical Trial
2021
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of an orthodontic tooth movement acceleration device (AcceleDent, OrthoAccel Technologies, Houston, Texas) when used during an aligner treatment. Materials and Methods: Adult patients who began an aligner treatment (Lineo, Micerium Lab, Avegno, Italy) were allocated to two treatment groups. The first one (Group A), with a 7-day aligner change regimen, used the AcceleDent device for 20 min per day, whereas the second one (Group B) changed the aligners every 14 days and did not use any device. The registered outcomes were the possibility of completing the treatment, the number of aligners needed and treatment duration in t…

Use of vacuum-formed retainer for extrusion of a grossly decayed tooth using auxiliaries
2021
Introduction: Vacuum-formed retainers are one of the most used retainers because of their esthetic advantage, ease of fabrication as well as the low fabrication cost. While aligners are usually associated with improved esthetics the extended period required to obtain these is one of the reasons the present modification was introduced to achieve the desired tooth movement with patient cooperation. Patient Diagnosis: The patient aged 35 years old came with a missing clinical crown and pain in relation to tooth 11 and was advised to receive re-endodontic treatment. The main finding on intra-oral examination was that the patient’s incisor root was submerged below the gingiva. Clinical innovatio…
Accuracy evaluation of orthodontic movements with aligners: a prospective observational study.
2022
Abstract Background Since their introduction in orthodontics, clear aligners have been appreciated by patients, including adults, for their comfort and low aesthetic impact. Despite the enormous mobilization of financial resources all over the world aimed at producing new product lines, few clinical studies or high-quality evidence have been produced regarding the real effectiveness of such treatment. Given the few limited kinds of research on the subject, this study aims to produce and critically evaluate other data, to establish the concrete reliability of clear aligners in orthodontic therapy. Results Significant sample sizes were obtained for intrusion, vestibulo/lingual (V/L) crown tip…
Ortodonzia estetica: vantaggi e limiti della tecnica Invisalign
2013
Efficacy and predictability of maxillary and mandibular expansion with the Invisalign® system
2021
Background The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and predictability of upper and lower orthodontic expansion with the Invisalign® system. Material and Methods From a sample of 167 patients; 64 upper and 51 lower arches were randomly selected from patients who had been treated with plastic orthodontics (Invisalign® aligners, SmartTrack® material). Digital models were extracted at the beginning (ModT1) and at the end of treatment (ModT2) as well as the final ClinCheck® (CkT2). The canine, premolar and molar width was measured at the gingival and cuspid level of both arches, as well as the inclination of the upper first molar. Likewise, both arches were divided regarding the pl…
Pain control during orthodontic treatment first
2020
Aim: The introduction of aligner treatment has recently modified patients’ expectations regarding orthodontic treatment. Since their demand for smart, fast and comfortable treatments cannot be neglected, interest for new techniques and devices in this field has raised. Among these, AcceleDent® (OrthoAccel Technologies, Inc., Houston, TX) has been drawing the attention of the scientific community. AcceleDent® is a vibrating device (frequency 30 Hz, force 20 g), which, through a daily 20 minutes usage, promises to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement and reduce treatment-related pain. This device is currently being employed during both fixed orthodontic appliance and aligner therapy all over…
Comparative Analysis of Periodontal Pain According to the Type of Precision Orthodontic Appliances: Vestibular, Lingual and Aligners. A Prospective C…
2021
The objective of this prospective clinical study was to analyze the pain (intensity, location and type) that patients presented after the placement of different types of orthodontic appliances: conventional, low friction, lingual and aligners. The sample consisted of 120 patients divided into four groups: conventional (CON), low friction (LF), lingual (LO) and aligners (INV). The participants were given the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (Ortho-SF-MPQ), where they had to record the pain intensity (no pain, mild, moderate or intense) and the periodontal location at different time points, from the first 4 h to 7 days after the start of treatment. In all the study groups, the most freque…

A systematic review of the accuracy and efficiency of dental movements with Invisalign®
2019
We are currently living in an era where the use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing has allowed individualized orthodontic treatments, but has also incorporated enhanced digitalized technology that does not permit improvisation. The purpose of this systematic review was to analyze publications that assessed the accuracy and efficiency of the Invisalign® system. A systematic review was performed using a search strategy to identify articles that referenced Invisalign®, which were published between August 2007 and August 2017, and listed in the following databases: MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Knowledge, Google Scholar, and LILACS. Additionally, a manual search o…
