Identifying Causal Effects with the R Package causaleffect

2017

Do-calculus is concerned with estimating the interventional distribution of an action from the observed joint probability distribution of the variables in a given causal structure. All identifiable causal effects can be derived using the rules of do-calculus, but the rules themselves do not give any direct indication whether the effect in question is identifiable or not. Shpitser and Pearl constructed an algorithm for identifying joint interventional distributions in causal models, which contain unobserved variables and induce directed acyclic graphs. This algorithm can be seen as a repeated application of the rules of do-calculus and known properties of probabilities, and it ultimately eit…

Estimating the causal effect of timing on the reach of social media posts

2022

AbstractModern companies regularly use social media to communicate with their customers. In addition to the content, the reach of a social media post may depend on the season, the day of the week, and the time of the day. We consider optimizing the timing of Facebook posts by a large Finnish consumers’ cooperative using historical data on previous posts and their reach. The content and the timing of the posts reflect the marketing strategy of the cooperative. These choices affect the reach of a post via a dynamic process where the reactions of users make the post more visible to others. We describe the causal relations of the social media publishing in the form of a directed acyclic graph, …

Straightforward Regio- and Diastereoselective Synthesis, Molecular Structure, Intermolecular Interactions and Mechanistic Study of Spirooxindole-Engr…

2021

Straightforward regio- and diastereoselective synthesis of bi-spirooxindole-engrafted rhodanine analogs 5a–d were achieved by one-pot multicomponent [3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) reaction of stabilized azomethine ylide (AYs 3a–d) generated in situ by condensation of L-thioproline and 6-chloro-isatin with (E)-2-(5-(4-chlorobenzylidene)-2,4-dioxothiazolidin-3-yl)-N-(2-morpholinoethyl)acetamide. The bi-spirooxindole-engrafted rhodanine analogs were constructed with excellent diastereo- and regioselectivity along with high chemical yield. X-ray crystallographic investigations for hybrid 5a revealed the presence of four contiguous stereocenters related to C11, C12, C19 and C22 of the spiro struct…

Prosjekt…

Space partitioning of exchange-correlation functionals with the projector augmented-wave method

2018

We implement a Becke fuzzy cells type space partitioning scheme for the purposes of exchange-correlation within the GPAW projector augmented-wave method based density functional theory code. Space partitioning is needed in the situation where one needs to treat different parts of a combined system with different exchange-correlation functionals. For example, bulk and surface regions of a system could be treated with functionals that are specifically designed to capture the distinct physics of those regions. Here, we use the space partitioning scheme to implement the quasi-nonuniform exchange-correlation scheme, which is a useful practical approach for calculating metallic alloys on the gene…

AES and CEMS analysis of the formation of layers on Si steel under thermal treatment in a flux of H2/water vapour

1991

The near surface diffusion and reaction processes in iron-silicon steel (3.1 wt.%Si) during 10 min decarburization in water vapour/hydrogen have been studied. The decarburization temperature has been varied between 506 and 714°C for the fixed partial pressure ratio pH2O/pH2=0.017. An outer layer of SiO2 forms on the surface with its thickness increasing with temperature. From 600°C upwards, the decarburization process is hindered and a cementite layer is formed below the SiO2 layer. The formation of fayalite at the surface has been studied at a fixed decarburization temperature with pH2O/pH2 ranging from 0.017 to 0.49. The scale thickness reduces abruptly just before the ratio pH2O/pH2 nece…

Kontemplativ, handlingsrettet spiritualitet - Stille stund og ledelse i Oxfordbevegelsen belyst ved nedtegnelser fra Erling Wikborg

2014

Author's version of an article in the journal: Teologisk tidsskrift. Also available from the publisher at: http://www.idunn.no/tt/2014/04/kontemplativ_handlingsrettet_spiritualitet_-_stille_stund_ Contemplation and belief in guidance from God had a distinct design in the international ecumenical revival the Oxford Group which gained great support in the interwar period. In this movement, contemplation, called quiet time, was focused on intention and action in order to grasp and carry out God’s guidance. The article examines teaching about and practice of quiet time and guidance in the Oxford Group and shows how these phenomena relate to a broader historical context within Christianity. Note…
