On the interest of ambipolar materials for gas sensing
2017
International audience; Based on the electrochemical properties of a series of metallophthalocyanines this article shows that the phthalocyanine bearing four alkoxy groups and twelve fluorine atoms behaves approximately as those with eight fluorine atoms. This indicates that the electron-donating effect of one alkoxy group balances the electro-withdrawing effect of one fluorine atom. We engaged three metallophthalocyanines, namely the octafluoro copper phthalocyanine, Cu(F8Pc), an octaester metallophthalocyanine and a phthalocyanine bearing four alkoxy groups and twelve fluorine atoms, Zn(T4F12Pc), in building original conductometric transducers that are Molecular Semiconductor – Doped Insu…
Carbamoylmethylphosphinoxide derivatives based on the triphenylmethane skeleton. Synthesis and extraction properties.
2005
Two different strategies were used to synthesize tri(2-alkoxy-5-nitrophenyl)methanes 6a,b. The X-ray structures of 6a and its precursor 5 show the molecules in a conformation with a syn-orientation of the nitro and alkoxy groups. Hydrogenation and acylation by the appropriate active ester gave the corresponding tri-CMPO derivatives 4a,b. Their ability to complex lanthanide ions was studied by NMR spectroscopy and by nuclear magnetic relaxation dispersion and further characterized by quantum mechanical calculations. Extraction experiments from acidic solution to dichloromethane reveal a reasonable selectivity of Am(III) over Eu(III), but in contrast to similar tetra-CMPOs derivatives of cali…
Conformationally Mobile Wide Rim Carbamoylmethylphosphine Oxide (CMPO)-Calixarenes
1999
Six new calix[4]arene derivatives 2a–f have been synthesised, bearing CMPO-like functions (-NH–C(O)–CH2–P(O)Ph2) at their wide rim. They differ by their alkoxy groups at the narrow rim, comprising all possible combinations of methoxy and syn-propoxy groups including the conformationally mobile tetramethyl ether 2e and the tetrapropyl ether 2f fixed in the cone conformation. Their extraction behaviour for thorium(IV) and several lanthanides(III) from 1M HNO3 to dichloromethane has been studied and compared also to non cyclic calixarene analogues 6a–e. Surprisingly the best extraction results were found for the 1,2-dimethoxy-3,4-dipropoxy derivative 2c among the calixarenes and for the tetram…
Untersuchungen zur Photoleitfhigkeit von alkoxysubstituierten Oligo- und Poly(1,4-phenylenethenylen)en
1994
Investigations on the Photoconductivity of Alkoxy Substituted Oligo- and Poly(1,4-phenyleneethenylene)s The photoreactivity and the photoconductivity of the mono- and dialkoxy substituted oligo- and poly(1,4-phenyleneethenylene)s 1/1′a-n were investigated in order to optimize the photoconducting properties of these materials. Increasing the length of the side chains enhances the average length of the main chain during the polycondensation and decreases the band gap till the limit of convergence is reached. The highest photoconductivity was observed for the 2,5-dipropyloxy system 1/1′j. Longer side chains render the charge transfer from chain to chain more difficult. The measurements were pe…
Synthesis, characterization and solid-state photoluminescence studies of six alkoxy phenylene ethynylene dinuclear palladium(II) rods
2015
A rare family of six discrete binuclear [PdCl(PEt3)2] phenylene ethynylene rods with alkoxy side chains (methoxy, ethoxy and heptoxy) have been developed, and their solid-state photoluminescence results have been presented and discussed. The shorter bridging ligands are of the general formula H–CuC– C6H2(R)2–CuC–H, where R = H, OCH3, OC 2H5, and OC7H15, whereas the longer ones are based on H– CuC–C6H4–CuC–C6H2(R)2–CuC–C6H4–CuC–H, where R = OCH3, OC 2H5. These ligands display increasing length in both the main dimension (backbone length) as well as the number of carbons in the side chains (R, alkoxide side chain) that stem from the central phenylene moiety. The X-ray crystal structures of tw…
Titanium-aluminium catalysts with alkoxy ligands supported on aluminium oxide for ethylene polymerization
1989
Activity of a model titanium-aluminium catalyst system with n-BuO-ligands has been investigated in the polymerization of ethylene. The effect of the concentration of titanium compound on the support, the Al/Ti molar ratio, and catalyst concentration in the polymerization process on polyethylene yield has been determined. A mathematical optimation method has been used for the interpretation of results. The intervals of the optimum parameters of catalyst synthesis have been established, to obtain catalyst with a high activity in low-pressure ethylene polymerization. These specified optimum parameters have been applied in the subsequent synthesis of similar catalytic systems, differing in the …
Tetrakis(oxadiazolylphenyl)pyrazines: New St. Andrew's Cross-Shaped Liquid Crystals.
2019
π-Conjugated molecules with the shape of St. Andrew's cross have been synthesized via fourfold Huisgen reaction. Four 2,5-diaryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol arms are attached to a central pyrazine nucleus. These fluorescent stars, when decorated with a rim of eight alkoxy side chains are discotic liquid crystals. Depending on the substitution pattern, the width of the liquid phase varies within a broad range of 25 °C to 250 °C. In their liquid crystalline phase, the molecules assemble in a typical hexagonal columnar supramolecular arrangement.
Template-synthesized nanostructure morphology influenced by building block structure
2011
We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of nanostructures and determine whether several distinct types of building blocks can be fashioned into linear nanostructures using hard-templates and electrochemical methods. We determine the aspects of molecular structure that influence morphology and propose a mechanism whereby morphology changes as a function of building block. We show how hydrophobic side-chains, such as 3-hexyl and 3-(2-ethyl)hexyl, can be used to prepare nanostructures with a geometry that is different from the shape of the template from which they derive. These nanostructures exhibit collapsed, nonlinear, and nonrigid shapes as observed by SEM and TEM. Hydroph…
Di-n-butyltin oxide as a chemical carbon dioxide capturer
2010
Abstract Several synthetic routes to the decakis(di-n-butyltin(IV)) oxocluster, (n-Bu2SnO)6[(n-Bu2SnOCH3)2(CO3)]2 (1), a diorganotin compound previously shown to belong to the class of organotins able to store carbon dioxide, as well as its reactivity toward dimethyl carbonate (DMC), are described. The synthetic route from n-Bu2SnO and DMC was applied for the preparation of the ethoxy analogue of 1, oxocluster 2, using diethyl carbonate. The structural relationship connecting cluster 1, with its precursor PRE-1 isolated from recycling experiments and n-Bu2SnO is discussed. For this purpose, the reactivity of PRE-1 with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid was investigated in order to trace structu…
Boron functionalization of BODIPY by various alcohols and phenols.
2013
The synthesis of new B–O BODIPY derivatives functionalized with different alkoxy or diarylalkoxy derivatives is described. These compounds were synthesized from the reaction of different B–F BODIPY precursors with various alcohols and phenols, in the presence of AlCl3. Water-soluble dyes could be synthesized as well with this method, specifically by the introduction of polyethyleneglycol (PEG) groups. A photophysical study of the different compounds was performed, and showed that the B–O BODIPY derivatives exhibit rich fluorescence properties. Finally, the conjugation of the BODIPY core has been extended using two distyryl groups, hence providing NIR emitting BODIPY derivatives, in which on…
