Maternal effects in vulnerability to eye-parasites and correlations between behavior and parasitism in juvenile Arctic charr

2017

Hatchery-reared fish show high mortalities after release to the wild environment. Explanations for this include potentially predetermined genetics, behavioral, and physiological acclimation to fish farm environments, and increased vulnerability to predation and parasitism in the wild. We studied vulnerability to Diplostomum spp. parasites (load of eye flukes in the lenses), immune defense (relative spleen size) and antipredator behaviors (approaches toward predator odor, freezing, and swimming activity) in hatchery-reared juvenile Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) using a nested mating design. Fish were exposed to eye-fluke larvae via the incoming water at the hatchery. Fish size was positi…

Reproductive outcomes after expectant and surgical management for tubal pregnancy: a retrospective study

2023

Background: The management of ectopic pregnancy is widely debated. Salpingectomy, salpingostomy, and expectant management are widely performed, but the best approach in terms of keeping good future spontaneous fertility chances is yet to be determined. Material and methods: We performed a retrospective analysis (Clinical Trial ID: NCT05479786) of the medical records of patients with an ultrasonographic or surgical diagnosis of tubal ectopic pregnancy that were admitted to the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre between 2012 and 2020. Results: A total of 312 patients were included in the analysis. Patients managed expectantly and patients treated with salpingostomy had significantly highe…

Review of the Chilean Anthicidae Sensu Lato (Insecta: Coleoptera), with Critical Notes on the Lemodinae and Tomoderinae, New Descriptions and Synonyms

2021

An account of the Anthicidae (ant-like flower beetles) and associated incertae sedis groups of Chile is presented. Forty seven species and subspecies are confirmed for the country (Anthicinae, Copobaeninae, Eurygeniinae, Lagrioidinae, Lemodinae, Tomoderinae), including 11 new to science: Ischyropalpus aberratus, I. quadrimaculatus, I. similis, Sapintus costae, Tomoderus cavithorax, T. differens, T. melanocephalus, T. nahuelbuta, Trichananca inexpectata, T. neotropica, T. poggiispp. nov.ProtoanthicusMoore et Vidal, 2005 is found to be congeneric with Trichananca Blackburn, 1891, a new synonym and three new combinations are proposed: Trichananca marziae (Moore et Vidal, 2005) comb. nov., T. p…

Prehistoric Settlement and Population in the Madonie Mountains. New Data from the Archaeological Survey

2010

The aim of the Madonie research project is to analyse mobility strategies and the use of a mountainous territory by relating geomorphologic features, raw material sources and landscape to the prehistoric settlement. For this purpose we planned an intensive and systematic survey of sample areas, selected on geo-morphological, altimetric and archaeological criteria, correlated to a palaeoenvironmental investigation based on the study of palynological sequence samples coming from wet areas of the Madonie territory and from archaeological deposits. Le projet de recherche sur la Madonie analyse les stratégies de mobilité et l’exploitation du territoire de montagne, en reliant les caractéristique…

Plant trait‐environment relationships in tundra are consistent across spatial scales

2023

Patterns and processes shaping ecosystems vary across spatiotemporal scales. As plant functional traits reflect ecosystem properties, investigating their relationships with environment provides an important tool to understand and predict ecosystem structure and functioning. This is particularly important in the tundra where a changing climate may trigger severe alterations in plant communities as both summer and winter conditions are changing. Here, we investigate the relationships between key environmental drivers including summer temperature, snow persistence, topographic position and soil pH, and species height, specific leaf area (SLA) and seed mass as plant traits. The study is carried…
