Medicinal plants have been used as a source of remedies since ancient times in Egypt. The present study was designed to investigate the antibacterial activity and the cytotoxicity of the organic extracts from 16 selected medicinal plants of Egypt. The study was also extended to the isolation of the antiproliferative compound jaeschkeanadiol p-hydroxybenzoate (FH-25) from Ferula hermonis. Interest in studying teaching practices has increased, because of the need to evaluate teachers and dissatisfaction with the usual ways of doing it. Recent approaches with Value-Added Models, based on students’ results on achievement tests do not seem satisfactory. The article is based on a review of literature and classifies the approaches to practices in three groups: instruments based on information given by teachers; observation protocols; and approaches based on the analysis of products of the practices. W niniejszym artykule poszukuję odpowiedzi na pytanie: Jakie są sensy i znaczenia metafor we Wrocławskiej Szkole Przyszłości (WSP)? Ukazuję zastosowanie języka metaforycznego w szkole, gdzie metaforę traktuje się jako źródło wiedzy o otaczającym świecie, jako swoiste wspomaganie efektywniejszej komunikacji oraz jako stymulator wyobraźni. We WSP uważa się, że dziecko nie musi być skazane na edukację opartą na stereotypowych zachowaniach. Uważa się tam, że w procesie edukacji potrzebne jest myślenie kreatywne, oparte na rozmaitych skojarzeniach, w których wykorzystywana jest umiejętność tworzenia mapy myśli, wyobraźni, czyli tzw. edukacja z wyobraźnią. Hydrodistillation of the flowers (BpFl) of and fruits (BpFr) of Bupleurum fontanesii Guss. ex Caruel gave two oils that were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The main components were α-elemol (16.7%), caryophyllene oxide (16.4%) and heptacosane (15.9%) in BpFl, and spathulenol (16.8%), caryophylladienol I (13.2%) and α-elemol (12.8%) in BpFr. A good antimicrobial activity against several microorganisms, including Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus niger, all infesting historical art craft, was also determined.
