Effects of Thermal Treatment on the Structure of Eu:YAG Nanopowder
2007
Eu:YAG nanopowder precursors were obtained by co-precipitation of aluminium, yttrium and europium nitrates solution with ammonia. The hydroxides precursors were calcined at different temperatures from 900 to 1200°C as a function of holding time (1, 2 and 6 hours). The presence of Eu3+ ions in the matrix was confirmed by Energy Dispersive X-rays analysis. X-Ray Diffraction investigation by the Rietveld method shows that the sample treated at 900°C for 1 hour is essentially the garnet phase with the minor presence of hexagonal and monoclinic metastable phases. The Eu3+ ions are incorporated into the garnet phase, as is suggested by the lattice parameter value being larger than that in literat…

Short-range order around Er3+ in silica waveguides containing aluminium, titanium and hafnium
2006
Er3+-doped silica waveguides, co-doped with aluminium, titanium, and hafnium oxides, were prepared using the sol-gel method and dip-coating processing. Here, we present a characterisation of the local environment around Er3+ ions, as determined from the Er L3-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements performed at ESRF (France). The first coordination shell is composed of 5-6 oxygen atoms at distances ~2.32-2.35 A , slightly varying as a function of the modifier oxide. Er3+ nearest neighbors distance does not show a significant compositional dependence. On the contrary, outer shells analysis shows significant differences: Al2O3 doping (less than 2% mol) induces an or…
Laser densification of organic coating: Effects of laser wavelength, operating parameters and substrate properties
2012
International audience; Mechanical bonding and interface behaviour play a key role for any materials deposited on different substrates. Usually, a post-spray heat treatment is required to improve the coating morphology and to enhance mechanical properties of thermal-sprayed polymeric coating. The effects of YAG, CO2 and diode laser radiations on as-sprayed PEEK coating deposited on stainless steel and aluminum substrates were investigated. The results revealed a good coating densification and interface behavior. A correlation between coating and substrate absorption coefficients, their thermophysical properties and laser operating parameters was shown. Besides, the finite element modeling b…
Electrochemically-induced TiO2 incorporation for enhancing corrosion and tribocorrosion resistance of PEO coating on 7075 Al alloy
2018
Abstract 7075 Al alloy was PEO-treated in a silicate based electrolyte containing 3 g l-1 potassium titanyl oxalate using unipolar and bipolar pulsed current waveforms. The coating formed by the bipolar waveform with the wider cathodic pulses showed volcano-like surface morphology with no evidence of large pores at the metal/coating interface. It revealed the highest corrosion performance due to the synergistic effect of TiO2 incorporation and structural/morphological features along with a better passivation behavior indicating no pitting susceptibility. For this coating, the tribocorrosion tests showed no potential drop during sliding under 1 N with the lowest volume loss of 0.022 mm3.
Temperature Sensitivity of Multicrystalline Silicon Solar Cells
2019
This paper presents an experimental investigation of the temperature coefficients of multicrystalline silicon solar cells. The aim was to determine if some cell parameters can affect positively the temperature sensitivity without detrimental impact on the efficiency. Commercial solar cells with different bulk resistivities, compensation levels, and cell architectures have been studied. We report that the base net doping, the location of the solar cell along the brick and the cell architecture have significant impacts on the temperature coefficients. Moreover, we show how the change in recombination mechanisms along the ingot height affects the temperature coefficients. The compensation leve…
Structure and Phase Changes in Natural and Synthetic Magnesium Aluminum Spinel
2015
Natural spinel crystals from Ural and Pamir deposits and synthetic magnesium aluminium spinel single crystals with different stoichiometry (MgO.nAl2O3 ) grown by Verneuil method were used. The photoluminescence (PL), its excitation (PLE) and optical absorption of stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric magnesium aluminium spinel crystals containing the chromium and manganese ions and defects produced by fast neutron irradiation( fluence up to 1020cm-2, E>0.1 MeV) are investigated. The broadening of R- and N-lines takes place in synthetic stoichiometric spinel. Structure of synthetic nonstoichiometric spinels (n>1) has to be more disordered, since in addition to the site exchange …

Helium bubbles in alpha-irradiated aluminium: positron lifetime studies
1985
The formation of He-stabilised voids in aluminium single crystals injected with helium is monitored by positron lifetime measurements. The bubbles are observed to grow during annealing from 300 to 930K. The bubbles are extremely stable and survive annealing up to the melting point. Positron lifetime data are used to discuss the He density inside the bubbles and their growth mechanism.
3d impurities in Al: density functional results
1980
Self-consistent spin density functional calculations have been carried out for 3d transition metal impurities in aluminium. The width of the virtual level decreases as it moves away from the Fermi energy with increasing occupancy. The results are compared with recent XPS measurements.
