Was there a lunar eclipse that could have influenced the outcome of the Battle of Alesia? This is the argument developed in the book by Alain Deyber and David Romeuf, «Les Derniers Jours du Siège d'Alésia». Having verified the existence of an eclipse on the date given by the authors and based on the latest publications as well as on the scientific consensus, we conduct a critical study on the chronology of the siege and on the ethnological arguments, even ethno-astronomical of the authors.

Thanks to geophysical, electric and especially magnetic survey, carried out since 2008 within the programme "Sanctuaires d’Alésia", it has been possible to study the link between the different cult sites and the urban grid/network, to find new temples and to settle more precisely those which were only known by aerial photography. Plus d'un siècle après sa redécouverte, le théâtre d'Alésia a fait l'objet d'une fouille programmée de 2004 à 2008. Ces nouvelles recherches ont été l'occasion de reprendre l'abondante documentation accumulée lors des campagnes précédentes et de vérifier ou de préciser de nombreux points. C'est ainsi que trois états de fonctionnement ont été définis et que l'étude des occupations antérieures à la construction a permis de proposer des hypothèses relatives à l'existence de lieux de réunion ayant précédé le monument actuel.
