Marinomonas aquamarina sp. nov., isolated from oysters and seawater.
2005
Abstract The characterization of three bacterial strains isolated from cultured oysters and seawater at the Spanish Mediterranean coast has been performed. Strains were phenotypically and genetically characterized and the results led us to identify them as members of the genus Marinomonas . A phylogenetic analysis based on the almost complete 16S rDNA sequences clustered all three strains together (with sequence similarities around 99.8%) in the vicinity of M. communis and M. vaga sequences and distantly related to the other four species of the genus. The most closely related species was M. communis that shared 97.4–97.6% with the Mediterranean strains. DNA–DNA hybridizations were performed…
Pressure-induced phase transformation in zircon-type orthovanadate SmVO4from experiment and theory
2016
The compression behavior of zircon-type samarium orthovanadate, SmVO4, has been investigated using synchrotron-based powder x-ray diffraction and ab-initio calculations up to 21 GPa. The results indicate the instability of ambient zircon phase at around 6 GPa, which transforms to a high-density scheelite-type phase. The high-pressure phase remains stable up to 21 GPa, the highest pressure reached in the present investigations. On pressure release, the scheelite phase is recovered. Crystal structure of high-pressure phase and equations of state (EOS) for the zircon- and scheelite-type phases have been determined. Various compressibilities such as bulk, axial and bond, estimated from the expe…
A Motzkin filter in the Tamari lattice
2015
The Tamari lattice of order n can be defined on the set T n of binary trees endowed with the partial order relation induced by the well-known rotation transformation. In this paper, we restrict our attention to the subset M n of Motzkin trees. This set appears as a filter of the Tamari lattice. We prove that its diameter is 2 n - 5 and that its radius is n - 2 . Enumeration results are given for join and meet irreducible elements, minimal elements and coverings. The set M n endowed with an order relation based on a restricted rotation is then isomorphic to a ranked join-semilattice recently defined in Baril and Pallo (2014). As a consequence, we deduce an upper bound for the rotation distan…
Generating binary trees by Glivenko classes on Tamari lattices
2003
Using algebraic-theoretic results, we give an algorithm for generating binary trees within Glivenko classes in Tamari lattices. Tamari lattices are lattices of binary trees endowed by the well-known rotation transformation.
The Rotation χ-Lattice of Ternary Trees
2001
This paper generalizes to k-ary trees the well-known rotation transformation on binary trees. For brevity, only the ternary case is developped. The rotation on ternary trees is characterized using some codings of trees. Although the corresponding poset is not a lattice, we show that it is a χ-lattice in the sense of Leutola–Nieminen. Efficient algorithms are exhibited to compute meets and joins choosen in a particular way.
Electrophysiological evidence for change detection in speech sound patterns by anesthetized rats
2014
Human infants are able to detect changes in grammatical rules in a speech sound stream. Here, we tested whether rats have a comparable ability by using an electrophysiological measure that has been shown to reflect higher order auditory cognition even before it becomes manifested in behavioral level. Urethane-anesthetized rats were presented with a stream of sequences consisting of three pseudowords carried out at a fast pace. Frequently presented “standard” sequences had 16 variants which all had the same structure. They were occasionally replaced by acoustically novel “deviant” sequences of two different types: structurally consistent and inconsistent sequences. Two stimulus conditions we…
Il programma del liberalismo siciliano prima del ‘48 attraverso i manoscritti di Emerico Amari
2011
After studying Emerico Amari’s manuscripts, kept in the Biblioteca Comunale di Palermo, in this paper the author observes the contribution of Sicilian liberalism to the economic debate carried out in the years prior to the Revolution of ‘48. The unpublished papers enhance our knowledge and describe more clearly the reformist program that liberal Palermitans, among which Francesco Ferrara is numbered, stated and sustained for about ten years in the main administrative institutions of the island. Particular attention is paid to the most debated administrative and economic issues of that period: public works and conditions of Sicilian industry.
La recezione della formula montalembertiana in Amari e D'Ondes Reggio
2011
The paper, whose analysis focuses on a lapse of time up to 1870, year of the death of Montalembert and Amari, highlights the influence that the French Earl had on the liberal Catholic Sicilians Amari and D'Ondes Reggio. Particularly, this influence is more evident in the relationship between the Church and the State, crystallized by Montalembert in the well-known principle “a Free Church in a free State”, and explained in his letters to Cavour, in the speeches given by Malines in 1863 and published even in the liberal journal of Catholic inspiration, Le Correspondant. The written contributions of the liberal Palermitans and the brief, but important, correspondence between D'Ondes Reggio and…

Infrared evolved gas analysis during thermal investigation of lanthanum, europium and samarium carbonates
2003
Abstract The characterisation of rare earth elements carbonates (REECs) was performed by thermal analysis (TG–DTG) combined with simultaneous infrared evolved gas analysis–Fourier transform infrared (EGA–FTIR) spectroscopy. The TG–DTG curves were obtained using the Perkin-Elmer PC series TGA-7 thermogravimetric analyser in the temperature range 25–800 °C both in dynamic air and nitrogen atmosphere. La 2 (CO 3 ) 3 · n H 2 O, Eu 2 (CO 3 ) 3 · n H 2 O and Sm 2 (CO 3 ) 3 · n H 2 O were analysed, the dehydration and decarbonation steps were investigated and the water content was calculated. The trace rare earth elements in lanthanum, europium and samarium carbonates were determined by Philips PU…
