What do we talk about when we talk about 'slave narratives?' African American slave narratives have been a staple of American literary studies over the past decades. The narratives of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Jacobs and other ex-slaves have been recovered, anthologized and discussed by eminent critics such as Marion Wilson Starling, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Frances Smith Foster and William L. Andrews. For all its ubiquity, however, the generic label 'slave narrative' has been used in many different ways by specialists of African American literature. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir izanalizēt ASV vēstures reprezentāciju Čanga-reja Lī vēsturiskajā romānā Nodotie no transnacionālā viedokļa. Pētījuma mērķa sasniegšanai, tiek izmantotas tādas metodes kā žanra un teksta analīze, akcentējot uzmanību uz romāna tēmām un varoņiem, kā arī izmantojot transnacionālo pieeju konteksta interpretācijai. Empīriskajā daļā tiek apspriests kāpēc Nodotie pieder pie vēsturiskā romāna žanra. Turklāt, galveno varoņu traumatisko pieredžu un likteņu krustošanās nozīme romānā. Analizējot tiek noskaidrota romāna pozīcija Āzijas amerikāņu literatūrā, kā arī kādā veidā tā veicina ASV vēstures pārskatīšanu.

This article intends to read Fanon, a Novel, written in 2008 by John Edgar Wideman, as an attempt to decolonize the archive, more specifically the Fanonian archive. Rather than trying to exhume the legacy of the Martiniquan thinker, the novel proposes to set Fanon’s thought in motion, allowing it to unfold before the reader’s eyes. Thus summoned up, the archive assumes an eminently political role. No longer an origin in a teleological narrative, it can only be apprehended by a text that deliberately practices generic blurring and intermingling as a mode of writing. This paper contributes to the growing field of research on English as a business lingua franca (BELF) and extends discussion on the role of culture and cultural knowledge in business interactions. It aims to provide insights into the relationship between cultural knowledge and professionals’ management of BELF interactions. This article contrasts “The Finkelstein 5” and “Zimmer Land”, from Nana Kwame Adjei Brenyah’s short story collection Friday Black (2018) with the “Untitled” series from Mohale Mashigo’s Intruders (2018), using Mark Dery’s definition of Afrofuturism as a reading grid and a starting point. While both collections draw on the codes of science fiction and dystopia to portray racialized characters in futuristic settings to examine their relation to technology and their place in fictional ‘future’ societies, they take on different approaches.
