Nitric oxide modulates cerebral blood flow stimulation by acetazolamide in the rat cortex: a laser Doppler scanning study

Abstract The involvement of nitric oxide (NO) in cerebral blood flow (CBF) stimulation by acetazolamide was studied in anaesthetised, mechanically ventilated Wistar rats. CBF was monitored by laser Doppler scanning. Acetazolamide induced a long-lasting significant rCBF-increase. Application of N G -Nitro- l -arginine (L-NNA), an inhibitor of all NO synthetases (NOS), prevented CBF stimulation by acetazolamide. Continuous infusion of the exogenous NO donor SIN-1 (3-morpholinosydnonimine) suppressed L-NNA induced increases of mean arterial blood pressure without effect on rCBF in comparison to baseline. Genetic analysis of the short tandem repeat system D12S391 in the German and three Asian populations

Abstract Genomic DNA samples from 222 individuals from Southern China, 154 individuals from Thailand, 100 individuals from Japan as well as from 124 German individuals were analysed for the short tandem repeat (STR) locus D12S391. Typing was carried out by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and subsequent polyacryramide gel electrophoresis and silver staining. In total, 12 alleles could be distinguished in two of the populations. Among Chinese, allele 19 is the most common with a frequency of 0.225, and among Germans, allele 18 with a frequency of 0.186. Osteonecrosis detected by whole body magnetic resonance in patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma treated by BEACOPP

Objectives: The purpose of our retrospective review of prospectively acquired Whole Body Magnetic Resonance (WB-MRI) scans was to assess the incidence of osteonecrosis in patients who received different chemotherapies. Methods: We evaluated the WB-MRI scans performed on 42 patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma treated by three chemotherapy regimens (6ABVD, 2ABVD + 4BEACOPP, 2ABVD + 8BEACOPP), excluding patients with the main risk factors for osteonecrosis. Biochemical recurrence (BCR) occurs in up to 40% of prostate cancer patients after prostatectomy. In our study, we performed an immune monitoring study in 20 prostate cancer patients with BCR previously treated with metronomic cyclophosphamide (mCTX). We observed a decrease of regulatory T cells (Tregs) from 2 months and this was more pronounced after 6 months of mCTX treatment. This drop of Tregs was associated with increased level of activated HLADR+ CD45R0+ T cells in peripheral blood. Furthermore, a reactivation of Th1 polarized anti-PSA T-cell response was detected in BCR patients treated with mCTX. Abstract This paper reports the body distribution of block copolymers (made by controlled radical polymerization) with N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) as hydrophilic block and lauryl methacrylate (LMA) as hydrophobic block. They form micellar aggregates in aqueous solution. For this study the hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance was varied by incorporation of differing amounts of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) side chains into the hydrophilic block, while keeping the degree of polymerization of both blocks constant. Abstract Nilutamide is a pneumotoxic and hepatotoxic nitroaromatic (R-NO 2 ) antiandrogen used in the treatment of prostate carcinoma in man.
