Copper(II) complexes with sulfonamides derived from 2-picolylamine and their use as chemical nucleases

2006

Reaction between 2-picolylamine (2-aminomethylpyridine) with 2-mesitylenesulfonyl and 4- tert -butylbenzene sulfonyl chlorides leads to the formation of 2,4,6-trimethyl- N -[pyridin-2-ilmethyl]benzenesulfonamide (Hpmesa) and 4-ter-butyl- N -[pyridin-2-ilmethyl]benzenesulfonamide (Hptbsa). These compounds react with Cu(II) salts to yield coordination compounds with CuL 2 stoichiometry. The immediate environment of the metal ion is a highly distorted tetrahedron, the sulfonamide ligands acting in a bidentate fashion. Compound Hpmesa crystallizes in monoclinic space group P 2 1 /c (number 14), with Z  = 4; complex [Cu(pmesa) 2 ] crystallizes in monoclinic space group P 1 ¯ (number 2), with Z  …

N-p-Amino- and N-p-nitro-phenylsulfonyl derivatives of dipeptides, a new family of ligands for copper(II). Potentiometric and spectroscopic studies

1995

The co-ordination ability of four dipeptide analogues substituted on the N-terminal amino group with p-nitrophenylsulfonyl (nps-Ala-Ala and nps-Ala-His) and p-aminophenylsulfonyl (aps-Ala-Ala and aps-Ala-His) groups was studied by potentiometric and spectroscopic (UV/VIS absorption, CD and EPR) techniques. The N-terminal sulfonyl substituent drastically changes the acidity of the sulfonamide proton making nitrogen very efficient in binding to CuII. The sulfonamide nitrogen having pK between 9 and 11 does not need any anchoring binding group to form complexes with CuII. The para substituent on the phenyl ring (amino or nitro) influences very strongly the acidity of the sulfonamide proton. Th…

Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors

1999

Reaction of 20 aromatic/heterocyclic sulfonamides containing a free amino, imino, hydrazino or hydroxyl group, with 8-quinoline-sulfonyl chloride afforded a series of water-soluble (as hydrochloride or triflate salts) compounds. The new derivatives were assayed as inhibitors of the zinc enzyme carbonic anhydrase (CA), and more precisely of three of its isozymes, CA I, II (cytosolic forms) and IV (membrane-bound form), involved in important physiological processes. Efficient inhibition was observed against all three isozymes, but especially against CA II (in nanomolar range), which is the isozyme known to play a critical role in aqueous humor secretion within the ciliary processes of the eye…

Viscometric study on the compatibility of polymer–polymer mixtures in solution

1999

Abstract The viscosity behaviour of mixtures formed by two uncharged polymers in dilute solution has been studied at 25°C. The ternary systems assayed, and denoted solvent (1)/ polymer (2)/ polymer (3), have in common the poly(ether sulphone) (PES) as polymer 2, and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or poly(styrene) (PS) as polymer 3. The intrinsic viscosity and the viscometric interaction parameters have been experimentally measured for the binary (solvent/polymer) as well as for the ternary systems, and also theoretically evaluated for the latter. The estimation of the compatibility degree of the above polymer pairs have been done by means of three criteri…

A novel and selective fluoride opening of aziridines by XtalFluor-E. synthesis of fluorinated diamino acid derivatives.

2015

The selective introduction of fluorine onto the skeleton of an aminocyclopentane or cyclohexane carboxylate has been developed through a novel and efficient fluoride opening of an activated aziridine ring with XtalFluor-E. The reaction proceeded through a stereoselective aziridination of the olefinic bond of a bicyclic lactam and regioselective aziridine ring opening with difluorosulfiliminium tetrafluoroborate with the neighboring group assistance of the sulfonamide moiety to yield fluorinated diamino acid derivatives. The method based on the selective aziridine opening by fluoride has been generalized to afford access to mono- or bicyclic fluorinated substances.

Fundamental and practical aspects concerning the characterization of smart textiles

2017

The research aims towards a novel methodology of ZnO impregnation onto polyamide supports, in order to attain a special inorganic-organic hybrid polymer material, with increased UV-barrier attributes and high hydrophobicity. The experimental approach employed ZnO micro particles powder. Solutions with different concentrations of ZnO powder dispersed in methanol are prepared as anti-UV finishing agent and applied onto polyamide fabric. The responsive behaviour of this complex polymer network to UV irradiation, the photo protective performance and its time stability, also the hydrophobic character are assessed by different characterization techniques. The proposed method has advantages, like:…

Biocompatible Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-halloysite Nanotubes for Thermoresponsive Curcumin Release

2015

The grafting of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM) onto the halloysite external surface is proposed in order to obtain a novel thermoresponsive drug carrier for curcumin delivery. The new nanomaterial is characterized by means of FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and SEM investigations. A high density of polymer chain was achieved at the nanoparticle surface. The PNIPAAM dehydration phenomenon was observed in water above 32 °C that is nearly coincident with the lower critical solution temperature for the polymer. The colloidal stability as well as the wettability of the obtained nanomaterial may be triggered by temperature stimuli. In vitro tests simulating the gastro-intes…

Thermo- and photo-oxidative stability and improved processability of polyamide stabilized with a new functional additive

2005

During processing polyamides can undergo thermo-mechanical degradation due to the mechanical stress and to the high temperature applied to the melt. Degradation can occur also during the polyamides lifetime due to many driving forces, like temperature, ultraviolet radiations, etc. The mechanisms of degradation are not well understood and the stabilization with usual stabilizers, like phenol antioxidants, is not so efficient as for other classes of polymers. The aim of this work is the study of the effects of the addition of a new multifunctional additive on the processing and on the thermo- and photo-stabilization of polyamide-6. This additive is able to prevent the thermo-mechanical degrad…

pH-sensitive hydrogel based on a polyaspartamide derivative

2006

A pH-sensitive hydrogel was prepared by UV irradiation technique. Starting polymer was obtained from alpha,beta-poly (N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) partially derivatized with glycidyl methacrylate (PHG). The PHG copolymer was cross-linked by UV irradiation in the presence of methacrylic acid (MA) to form a pH sensitive hydrogel. The cross-linked matrix shaped as microparticles was characterized by FT-IR spectrophotometry, XPS, X-ray diffraction, SEM and particle size distribution analyses. Moreover, to have information about water affinity of the prepared sample, swelling measurements were carried out in aqueous media mimicking some biological fluids. In order to employ the prepar…

Biochemical identification and tissue-specific expression patterns of keratins in the zebrafish Danio rerio

1998

We have identified a number of type I and type II keratins in the zebrafish Danio rerio by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, complementary keratin blot-binding assay and immunoblotting. These keratins range from 56 kDa to 46 kDa in molecular mass and from pH 6.6 to pH 5.2 in isoelectric point. Type II zebrafish keratins exhibit significantly higher molecular masses (56-52 kDa) compared with the type I keratins (50-48 kDa), but the isoelectric points show no significant difference between the two keratin subclasses (type II: pH 6.0-5.5; type I: pH 6.1-5.2). According to their occurrence in various zebrafish tissues, the identified keratins can be classified into "E" (epider…
