[EN] A new dinuclear iron(III) complex with the tetradentate ligand N,N'-o-phenylenebis(oxamate) (opba) has been synthesised, and structurally, magnetically and electrochemically characterised. It possesses an unprecedented triply bridged Fe-2(mu-O)(mu-RCO2...H2O...O2CR)(2) core, whereby two N-amides from the opba ligand complete the square-pyramidal coordination sphere of the O-carboxylate rich iron site (Fe-N = 2.053 Angstrom and Fe-O = 2.015 Angstrom), The antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between the two high-spin Fe-III ions through the oxo bridge (J = -190 cm(-1); H = -JS(1)(.)S(2)) is weaker than that found in related mu-oxo singly bridged diiron(III) complexes. The reaction of 2,4,6-tris(pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (ptz) and copper(II) salts in DMF–water (4:1) resulted in the hydrolysis of ptz, giving rise to the bis(2-pyridylcarbonyl)amide anion ( ptO 2 - ) and affording the complexes [Cu(ptO 2 )(2-Clbenz)(H 2 O)] ( 1 ), [Cu(ptO 2 )(3-Clbenz)] ( 2 ), and [Cu(ptO 2 )(4-Clbenz)(DMF)] ( 3 ). This report includes the chemical and spectroscopic characterization of all these compounds along with the crystal structures of the Cu(II) complexes thus formed. The coordination spheres of Cu(II) in 1 and 3 are best described as distorted square based pyramidal, while for 2 the coordination sphere is distorted square planar.

Self-assembling micelles, potentially useful as drug delivery systems for ferulic acid (FA), were obtained in aqueous media from amphiphilic alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide (PHEA) copolymers bearing at the polyamino acidic backbone both poly(ethyleneglycol) (2000 or 5000 Da) and hexadecylamine (C(16)) moieties, at a concentration of 7 x 10(- 3) and 4 x 10(- 3) g/l, respectively, with nanometre size and negative zeta potential. These micelles were able to entrap FA and to release it in a prolonged way in phosphate buffer solution at pH 7.4 and human plasma. The development of efficient methods for facilitating N-C(O) bond activation in amides is an important objective in organic synthesis that permits the manipulation of the traditionally unreactive amide bonds. Herein, we report a comparative evaluation of a series of cyclic amides as activating groups in amide N-C(O) bond cross-coupling. The structural and mechanistic aspect of the Hsp60 folding cycle will be also presented. The relaxant effects of cromakalim (BRL 34915) on human isolated airway smooth muscle

Cromakalim (BRL 34915) is a potassium channel opener with therapeutic potential as a bronchodilator in asthma. Cromakalim (0.1–30 μmol/l) inhibited the spontaneous tone of human isolated bronchi n a concentration-related manner being nearly as effective as isoprenaline or theophylline. The order of relaxant potencies (expressed as -log10 IC50 mol/l; mean ±SEM) was isoprenaline (7.29 ± 0.27; n = 8) > cromakalim (5.89 ± 0.12; n = 7) > theophylline (4.07 ±0.13; n = 10). In human bronchi where tone had been raised by addition of histamine (0.1 mmol/l), acetylcholine (0.1 mmol/l) or leukotriene D4 (LTD4, 0.1 μmol/l), the relaxant effect of cromakalim was substantially reduced. Abstract Sporozoites of the apicomplexan parasite Cryptosporidium parvum were subjected to cell disruption and subcellular fractionation using a sucrose density step gradient. With this procedure, highly enriched preparations of the parasite membrane, the micronemes, dense granules and amylopectin granules were produced. No separate fraction containing rhoptries was obtained, however this organelle was found in defined fractions of the gradient, still associated with the apical tip of the sporozoites.
