Novel cationic solid-lipid nanoparticles as non-viral vectors for gene delivery.

In this paper, the suitability of novel cationic solid-lipid nanoparticles (SLN) as a nonviral transfection agent for gene delivery was investigated. SLN were produced by using the microemulsion method and Compritol ATO 888 as matrix lipid, dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide as charge carrier and Pluronic F68 as surfactant. Obtained nanoparticles were approximately 120 nm in size and positively charged, with a zeta potential value equal to +45 mV in twice-distilled water. Fluorimetric determination of 1-naphthol and mixtures of carbaryl and 1-naphthol in micellar media

The interaction of 1-naphthol with different types of anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants has been studied spectrofluorimetrically in order to obtain a sensitivity enhancement in the determination of this compound. At neutral pH, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) provides a 2-fold sensitivity enhancement of 1-naphthol and exhibits a weak interaction with carbaryl. In strong alkaline medium carbaryl is hydrolyzed to 1-naphthol and in the presence of CTAB micells, a 5-fold sensitivity enhancement and a limit of detection of 0.2 μg·ml−1 with a 101±3% percentage of recovery is obtained. Langmuir monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the decatungstoeuropate [Eu(W(5)O(18))(2)](9-) (EuW(10)) and the amphiphilic Ir complex 1 have been successfully fabricated by using the adsorption properties of the EuW(10) polyanion dissolved in the aqueous subphase onto a positively charged 1 monolayer at the air-water interface. The compression isotherms and Brewster angle microscopy (BAM) of monolayers of 1 on pure water (1 monolayer) and on a subphase containing 10(-6) M EuW(10) and 10(-3) M NaCl (1/EuW(10) monolayer) have been studied. Nano-composite thermochromic thin films and their application in Energy-efficient glazing

A hybrid atmospheric pressure and aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition strategy is presented as a facile route for the production of vanadium dioxide nano-composite thin films. The effect of the inclusion of gold nanoparticles and the use of a surfactant molecule, tetraoctylammonium bromide, is discussed. The films were fully characterised using a wide variety of techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV/vis/NIR spectroscopy. Gene transfer represents an important advance in the treatment of both genetic and acquired diseases. In this article, the suitability of cationically modified solid-lipid nanoparticles (SLN) as a nonviral vector for gene delivery was investigated, in order to obtain stable materials able to condense RNA. Cationic SLN were produced by microemulsion using Compritol ATO 888 as matrix lipid, Pluronic F68 as tenside, and dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide (DDAB) as cationic lipid.
