Sensory preconditioning in newborn rabbits: from common to distinct odor memories.

Brief Communication; International audience; This study evaluated whether olfactory preconditioning is functional in newborn rabbits and based on joined or independent memory of odorants. First, after exposure to odorants A+B, the conditioning of A led to high responsiveness to odorant B. Second, responsiveness to B persisted after amnesia of A. Third, preconditioning was also functional with two overlapping pairs of odorants (A+B and B+C) and amnesia of one odorant did not affect memory of the others. Thus, incidental pairing of odorants allows reinforcement of one odorant to implicitly reinforce the others, the bond then vanishes, and the memory of each element becomes independent.

L’ultimo romanzo della scrittrice statunitense di origini norvegesi Siri Hustvedt, Memories of the Future (Ricordi del futuro, 2019) propone alcuni casi di amnesia declinati secondo due modalità, individuale e collettiva, entrambe necessarie per far luce sulla teoria della memoria che l’autrice ha elaborato nei suoi saggi e romanzi. American writer Siri Hustvedt's latest novel, Memories of the Future (Memories of the Future, 2019) offers some cases of amnesia declined in two modes, individual and collective, both of which are necessary to shed light on the theory of memory that the author has elaborated in her essays and novels.

Memory function after resolution of post traumatic amnesia

Primary objectives: The aims of this pilot study were (1) to examine neuropsychological, particularly memory functions immediately after post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) resolution according to the Galveston Orientation and Amnesia Test (GOAT), and (2) to provide a preliminary exploration of pattern of performance on GOAT items across PTA duration. Methods and procedures: Thirty-seven head injured patients were administered the Recognition Memory Tests on the day that PTA resolved. Standardizzazione di tre nuovi test di memoria di riconoscimento verbale e non verbale: uno studio preliminare.

Il lavoro presenta la costruzione e standardizzazione di una nuova batteria di test neuropsicologici per la valutazione della memoria di riconoscimento verbale e non verbale. La batteria è composta da tre subtest: parole, volti non familiari ed edifici sconosciuti. I test sono stati standardizzati su un campione italiano di 308 soggetti normali di entrambi i sessi, di età compresa tra 20 e 80 anni e scolarità da 5 a 19 anni. I punteggi ai tre test risultano normalmente distribuiti. Le tre prove risultano di difficoltà uguale e graduata e sono confrontabili tra loro. La batteria consente di differenziare sia deficit globali che selettivi.

Naming People Ignoring Semantics in a Patient with Left Frontal Damage

Studies about proper name anomia generally assume that persons' names are harder to recall than other semantic information one knows about them and that name retrieval is not possible without biographical knowledge. We describe a patient, SB, who, after a left frontal haemorrhage, was unable to recall any biographical information about people she could name. Moreover, she had a normal score in an Object Picture Naming Test, but gave confabulatory answers in a Semantic Questionnaire involving the same items. The role of frontal function in producing this pattern of impairment is discussed, together with the possible existence of a direct route from visual perception to proper name retrieval.
