Comprehensive formulation of the temperature dependent dispersion of optical materials; illustration with the case of temperature tuning of a mid-IR …
2009
International audience; The temperature dependence of refractive indices of optical materials is characterized in this work by what we call their normalized thermo-optic coefficients. These ones are determined experimentally through interferometric measurements of thermal expansion, and changes in optical thickness at a few laser wavelengths as function of temperature. A suitable vectorial formalism applied to these data allows predicting the thermal evolution of the refractive index all over the useful range of transparency. The validity and reliability of our methodology is demonstrated through temperature tuning of a mid-IR HgGa2S4 OPO, pumped at 1.0642 μm by a Nd:YAG laser. Measured the…
Light-by-light polarization control for telecommunication applications
2010
In this work, we report for the first time the experimental achievement of an all-fibered polarization attraction, which can occur in optical fibers at telecommunication wavelengths. More precisely, we have experimentally shown that is possible to all-optically control and stabilize the state of polarization of a 10 Gbit/s telecommunication signal through the injection of a counter-propagating control pump wave. Eye diagrams recordings and bit error rate measurements have shown that this new type of all-optical function, almost lossless and instantaneous has a promising potential for telecommunication applications.
Analytical Dynamics of Optical Similaritons
2007
We analytically describe the attraction of parabolic pulses towards a self-similar state in weakly dispersive nonlinear fibers with linear gain.
Optical peregrine soliton generation in standard telecommunication fibers
2011
By combining real time characterization with cut-back measurements, we provide the first direct observation of Peregrine-like soliton longitudinal evolution dynamics and report a new effect associated with the breakup of a Peregrine soliton into two subpulses, each providing similar characteristics of localization upon finite background. Experimental results are in good agreement with simulations.
Photonically assisted RF generator with incoherent sources
2008
An RF waveform generator operating with incoherent broadband light is successfully implemented. Complex RF ~10 GHz bandwidth waveforms are generated by means of incoherent wavelength-to-time mapping. Our technique can be scaled to the mm-wave range.

Nonlinear spectrum broadening cancellation by sinusoidal phase modulation
2017
International audience; We propose and experimentally demonstrate a new approach to dramatically reduce the spectral broadening induced by self-phase modulation occurring in a Kerr medium. By using a temporal sinusoidal phase modulation, we efficiently cancel to a large extend the chirp induced by the nonlinear effect. Experimental validation carried out in a passive or amplifying fiber confirm the interest of the technic for the mitigation of spectral expansion of long pulses.
The role of nonlinear optical absorption in narrowband difference-frequency terahertz-wave generation
2010
We present a general analysis of the influence of nonlinear optical absorption on terahertz generation via optical difference frequency generation, when reaching for the quantum conversion efficiency limit. By casting the equations governing the process in a suitably normalized form, including either two-photon- or three-photon-absorption terms, we have been able to plot universal charts for phase matched optical-to-terahertz conversion for different values of the nonlinear absorption coefficients. We apply our analysis to some experiments reported to date, in order to understand to what extent multiphoton absorption could have played a role and also to predict the maximum achievable conver…
Spatial Beam Evolution in Nonlinear Multimode Fibers
2021
We discuss some recent results illustrating the role of input wave-front shaping, propagation dynamics and output beam diagnostics in order to observe spatial beam cleaning in nonlinear multimode fibers and amplifiers.
Radiation responses of Yb/Er-doped phosphosilicate optical fibers: hardening mechanisms related to Ce-codoping
2012
International audience; In this paper, we investigated the origins of the Ce positive influence on the radiation response of Yb/Er-doped phosphosilicate optical fibers. To this purpose, we carried out during γ-irradiations an online characterization on active optical fiber prototypes, made with different Ce concentrations and integrated in optical amplifiers. The hardening effect of Ce-codoping is highlighted, as well as some aspects related to the radiation response of the phosphosilicate host glass of the active optical fibers.
