Multichannel0→2and1→2transition amplitudes for arbitrary spin particles in a finite volume

2015

We present a model-independent, nonperturbative relation between finite-volume matrix elements and infinite-volume $\mathbf{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathbf{2}$ and $\mathbf{1}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathbf{2}$ transition amplitudes. Our result accommodates theories in which the final two-particle state is coupled to any number of other two-body channels, with all angular momentum states included. The derivation uses generic, fully relativistic field theory and is exact up to exponentially suppressed corrections in the lightest particle mass times the box size. This work distinguishes itself from previous studies by accommodating particles with any intrinsic spin. To illustrate the utilit…

Switching Reciprocity On and Off in a Magneto-Optical X-Ray Scattering Experiment Using Nuclear Resonance ofα−Fe57Foils

2012

Reciprocity is when the scattering amplitude of wave propagation satisfies a symmetry property, connecting a scattering process with an appropriate reversed one. We report on an experiment using nuclear resonance scattering of synchrotron radiation, which demonstrates that magneto-optical materials do not necessarily violate reciprocity. The setting enables us to switch easily between reciprocity and its violation. In the latter case, the exhibited reciprocity violation is orders of magnitude larger than achieved by previous wave scattering experiments.

Electron dynamical response in InP semiconductors driven by fluctuating electric fields

2015

Abstract The complexity of electron dynamics in low-doped n-type InP crystals operating under fluctuating electric fields is deeply explored and discussed. In this study, we employ a multi-particle Monte Carlo approach to simulate the non-linear transport of electrons inside the semiconductor bulk. All possible scattering events of hot electrons in the medium, the main details of the band structure, as well as the heating effects, are taken into account. The results presented in this study derive from numerical simulations of the electron dynamical response to the application of a sub-Thz electric field, fluctuating for the superimposition of an external source of Gaussian correlated noise.…

On the wave interaction in a charged fluid with Hall and ion slip-currents

1983

The evolution of non linear small perturbations in a charged fluid with generalized Ohm's law is considered, pointing out the possibility of effects due to interaction between different waves. Following the perturbative reductive methods, some phase functions for studying interaction are introduced. A suitable hypothesis on their evolution permits us to prove that the amplitudes of the first order perturbation obey Burgers-like equations, in which the dissipative terms are not influenced by the Hall effect.

Vector Modulational Instabilities and Soliton Experiments

1999

In optical fibers, the interaction between nonlinear and dispersive effects leads to phenomena such as modulational instability (MI)[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6], in which a continuous or quasi-continuous wave undergoes a modulation of its amplitude or phase in the presence of noise or any other small perturbation. The perturbation can originate from quantum noise (spontaneous-MI) or from a frequency shifted signal wave (induced-MI). MI has been observed for the first time for a single pump wave propagating in a standard non birefringe.nt fiber (scalar MI)[7]. It has been shown that scalar MI only occurs when the group velocity dispersion (GVD) is negative (anomalous dispersion regime).

Breathing solitary waves in a Sine-Gordon two-dimensional lattice.

1995

We study theoretically and numerically the dynamical behavior of a two-dimensional sine-Gordon lattice. We show that, via modulational instability, an initial-low-amplitude plane wave can evolve spontaneously into moving localized modes with large amplitude. These nonlinear modes, with dimensions depending on the characteristic wavelengths of the instability, behave like breathing solitary waves and present particlelike properties.

Transverse patterns in degenerate optical parametric oscillation and degenerate four-wave mixing.

1996

Transverse pattern formation in both degenerate optical parametric oscillation and degenerate four-wave mixing is considered both theoretically and numerically. In the limit of small signal detuning both systems are shown to be described by the real Swift-Hohenberg equation. Contrarily, for small signal and large pump detunings the Swift-Hohenberg equation is modified differently in both systems, by the appearance of additional nonlinear terms, which signal the existence of nonlinear resonances that are theoretically studied through the derivation of the amplitude equation for the roll pattern in both systems. Numerical analysis supports the theoretical predictions. \textcopyright{} 1996 Th…

GAP solitons in 1D asymmetric physical systems

2008

We present a general approach for studying the nonlinear transmittance and gap solitons characteristics of asymmetric and one dimensional (1 D) systems in the low amplitude or Nonlinear Schrodinger limit. Included in this approach are some novel results on naturally asymmetric systems and systems where the symmetry is broken by an external constant force.

LONG TIME DYNAMICS OF MODULATED WAVES IN A NONLINEAR DISCRETE LC TRANSMISSION LINE

2003

The long-time dynamics of modulated waves in a nonlinear LC transmission line is investigated. Considering the higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation, we define analytically the conditions leading to the instability of modulated waves. We show that two kinds of instabilities may develop in the network depending on the frequency range of the chosen carrier wave and on the magnitude of its initial amplitude, which is confirmed by our numerical simulations. The nonreproducibility of numerical experiments on modulated waves is also considered.
