Three-Body Coulomb Final-State Interaction Effects in the Coulomb Breakup of Light Nuclei

Coulomb breakup of a projectile in the Coulomb field of a fully stripped heavy nucleus is at present one of the most popular experimental methods to obtain information on reactions of interest in nuclear astrophysics. Its theoretical interpretation presents, however, considerable difficulties, due to the three-body nature and the infinite range of the Coulomb forces involved. Among the uncertainties affecting present analyses, the possible modification of the dissociation cross section by three-body Coulomb final-state interactions plays a major role. Helicity Amplitudes of the Lambda(1670) and two Lambda(1405) as dynamically generated resonances

We determine the helicity amplitudes A(1/2) and radiative decay widths in the transition Lambda(1670) -> gamma Y (Y = Lambda or Sigma(0)). The Lambda(1670) is treated as a dynamically generated resonance in meson-baryon chiral dynamics. We obtain the radiative decay widths of the Lambda(1670) to gamma Lambda as 2 +/- 1 keV and to -gamma Sigma(0) as 120 +/- 50 keV. Also, the Q(2)-dependence of the helicity amplitudes A(1/2) is calculated. We find that the K Xi component in the Lambda(1670) structure, mainly responsible for the dynamical generation of this resonance, is also responsible for the significant suppression of the decay ratio Gamma(gamma A)/Gamma(gamma Sigma 0). Double pion photoproduction in nuclei

The inclusive A(gamma,pi+ pi-)X reaction is studied theoretically. A sizeable enhancement of the cross section is found, in comparison with the scaling of the deuteron cross section (sigma_deuteron * A/2). This enhancement is due to the modifications in the nuclear medium of the gamma N ----> pi pi N amplitude and the pion dispersion relation. The enhancement is found to be bigger than the one already observed in the (pi,pi pi) reaction in nuclei.

Charge-changing transitions in an extended Lipkin-type model

Charge-changing transitions are considered in an extended Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model taking into account explicitly the proton and neutron degrees of freedom. The proton and neutron Hamiltonians are taken to be of the LMG form and, in addition, a residual proton-neutron interaction is included. Model charge-changing operators and their action on eigenfunctions of the model Hamiltonian are defined. Transition amplitudes of these operators are calculated using exact eigenfunctions and then the RPA approximation. The best agreement between the two kinds of calculation is obtained when the correlated RPA ground state, instead of the uncorrelated HF ground state, is employed and when the p…

Translationally-Invariant Coupled-Cluster Method for Finite Systems

The translational invariant formulation of the coupled-cluster method is presented here at the complete SUB(2) level for a system of nucleons treated as bosons. The correlation amplitudes are solution of a non-linear coupled system of equations. These equations have been solved for light and medium systems, considering the central but still semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon S3 interaction.

Evaluation of the forward Compton scattering off protons: Spin-independent amplitude

We evaluate the forward Compton scattering off the proton, based on Kramers-Kronig kind of relations which express the Compton amplitudes in terms of integrals of total photoabsorption cross sections. We obtain two distinct fits to the world data on the unpolarized total photoabsorption cross section, and evaluate the various spin-independent sum rules using these fits. For the sum of proton electric and magnetic dipole polarizabilities, governed by the Baldin sum rule, we obtain the following average (between the two fits): $\alpha_{E1}+\beta_{M1}=14.0(2)\times 10^{-4}\,\mathrm{fm}^3$. First observation and amplitude analysis of theB−→D+K−π−decay

The B- -> D+K-pi(-) decay is observed in a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. Its branching fraction is measured to be B(B- -> D+K-pi(-)) = (7.31 +/- 0.19 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.39) x 10(-5) where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and from the branching fraction of the normalization channel B- -> D+pi(-)pi(-), respectively. An amplitude analysis of the resonant structure of the B- -> D+K-pi(-) decay is used to measure the contributions from quasi-two-body B- -> D-0* (2400)K-0(-), B- -> D-2* (2460)K-0(-), and B- -> D-J* (2760)K-0(-) decays, as well as from nonresonant sources. Study of a possible S=+1 dynamically generated baryonic resonance

Starting from the lowest order chiral Lagrangian for the interaction of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons we find an attractive interaction in the $\Delta K$ channel with L=0 and I=1, while the interaction is repulsive for I=2. The attractive interaction leads to a pole in the second Riemann sheet of the complex plane and manifests itself in a large strength of the $\Delta K$ scattering amplitude close to the $\Delta K$ threshold, which is not the case for I=2. Dalitz-plot analysis of the decays B±→K±π π±

2005

We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K±π π±. Using a sample of 226.0±2.5 million BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector, we measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for both charge-conjugate decays. We present measurements of the corresponding branching fractions and their charge asymmetries that supersede those of previous BABAR analyses. We find the charge asymmetries to be consistent with zero. © 2005 The American Physical Society.
