Do p annihilations at rest choose the Eightfold way?

1993

Dynamical selection rules observed in pp annihilation at rest are linked to relations between SU(3) invariant amplitudes. The ϱπ puzzle, the KK suppression in P wave, and the unexplained production rates of πa2 (1320) are shown to be manifestions of one SU(3) amplitude ratio. The dynamical selection rules observed in the production of strange mesons lead to symmetries in SU(3) amplitudes. We conjecture that these symmetries reflect the underlying quark-gluon dynamic. It is shown that the contribution of annihilation diagrams to important annihilation channels like ϱ0π0 or ηω is small or vanishes. Hence rearrangement must play an important role. The use of SU(3) relations in the context of N…

Tau spin correlations and the anomalous magnetic moment

2009

We show that the precise determination of the Tau magnetic properties is possible in the next generation accelerators, specially at B/Flavour factories. We define spin correlation observables suitable to extract the real part of the magnetic form factor that, for the first time, will allow to test the standard model-QED predictions. In particular, the predicted QED-dependence with both the momentum transfer and the lepton mass can be precisely measured. Until now, the most stringent bounds on the $\tau$ magnetic moment $a_\tau$ come from LEP data with strong assumptions on the physics involved on the observed process. In this paper, we find three different combinations of spin correlations …

Non-decoupling and lepton number violation in left-right models

1996

We argue that large non-decoupling effects of heavy neutrinos can appear naturally in manifestly left-right symmetric models due to the minimization conditions of the scalar potential and the structure of vev's imposed by phenomenology. We derive constraints on off-diagonal light-heavy and heavy-heavy neutrino mixings from the searches for lepton violating decays $\mu\rightarrow e\gamma,$ $\mu\rightarrow e e^-e^+$ and $\mu-e$ conversion in nuclei. The most stringent limits come from the latter process because its amplitude shows a quadratic non-decoupling dependence on the heavy neutrino mass. Due to the suppression of right-handed currents by large $W_R$ mass the present experiments are no…

Evaluation of the pi pi-scattering amplitude in the sigma-channel at finite density

2005

The $\pi\pi$ scattering amplitude in the $\sigma$-channel is studied at finite baryonic density in the framework of a chiral unitary approach which successfully reproduces the meson meson phase shifts and generates the $f_0$ and $\sigma$ resonances in vacuum. We address here a new variety of mechanisms recently suggested to modify the $\pi\pi$ interaction in the medium, as well as the role of the $s-$wave selfenergy, in addition to the $p-$wave, in the dressing of the pion propagators.

A non-perturbative chiral approach for meson-meson interactions

2000

A non-perturbative method which combines constraints from chiral symmetry breaking and coupled channel unitarity is used to describe meson-meson interactions up to \sqrt{s}\lesssim 1.2 GeV, extending in this way the range of applicability of the information contained in Chiral Perturbation Theory (\chi PT), since this perturbative series is typically restricted to \sqrt{s}\lesssim 500 MeV. The approach uses the O(p^2) and O(p^4) \chiPT Lagrangians. The seven free parameters resulting from the O(p^4) Lagrangian are fitted to the experimental data. The approach makes use of the expansion of T^{-1} instead of the amplitude itself as done in \chiPT. The former expansion is suggested by analogy …

Bethe-Salpeter approach for unitarized chiral perturbation theory

2000

The Bethe-Salpeter equation restores exact elastic unitarity in the $s-$ channel by summing up an infinite set of chiral loops. We use this equation to show how a chiral expansion can be undertaken in the two particle irreducible amplitude and the propagators accomplishing exact elastic unitarity at any step. Renormalizability of the amplitudes can be achieved by allowing for an infinite set of counter-terms as it is the case in ordinary Chiral Perturbation Theory. Crossing constraints can be imposed on the parameters to a given order. Within this framework, we calculate the leading and next-to-leading contributions to the elastic $\pi \pi$ scattering amplitudes, for all isospin channels, a…

On the singular behaviour of scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory

2014

We analyse the singular behaviour of one-loop integrals and scattering amplitudes in the framework of the loop--tree duality approach. We show that there is a partial cancellation of singularities at the loop integrand level among the different components of the corresponding dual representation that can be interpreted in terms of causality. The remaining threshold and infrared singularities are restricted to a finite region of the loop momentum space, which is of the size of the external momenta and can be mapped to the phase-space of real corrections to cancel the soft and collinear divergences.

Finite volume treatment of ππ scattering and limits to phase shifts extraction from lattice QCD

2012

We study theoretically the effects of finite volume for pipi scattering in order to extract physical observables for infinite volume from lattice QCD. We compare three different approaches for pipi scattering (lowest order Bethe-Salpeter approach, N/D and inverse amplitude methods) with the aim to study the effects of the finite size of the box in the potential of the different theories, specially the left-hand cut contribution through loops in the crossed t,u-channels. We quantify the error made by neglecting these effects in usual extractions of physical observables from lattice QCD spectra. We conclude that for pipi phase-shifts in the scalar-isoscalar channel up to 800 MeV this effect i…

Indirect CP violation in the B-system

1997

We show that, contrary to the flavour mixing amplitude q/p, both Re(epsilon) and Im(epsilon) are observable quantities, where epsilon is the phase- convention-independent CP mixing. We consider semileptonic B_d decays from a CP tag and build appropriate time-dependent asymmetries to separate out Re(epsilon) and Im(epsilon). "Indirect" CP violation would have in Im(epsilon)/(1+|epsilon|^2) its most prominent manifestation in the B-system, with expected values in the standard model ranging from -0.37 to -0.18. This quantity is controlled by a new observable phase: the relative one between the CP-violating and CP-conserving parts of the effective hamiltonian. For time-integrated rates we point…
