Low lying axial-vector mesons as dynamically generated resonances

2005

We make a theoretical study of the s-wave interaction of the nonet of vector mesons with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons starting from a chiral invariant Lagrangian and implementing unitarity in coupled channels. By looking for poles in the unphysical Riemann sheets of the unitarized scattering amplitudes, we get two octets and one singlet of axial-vector dynamically generated resonances. The poles found can be associated to most of the low lying axial-vector resonances quoted in the Particle Data Book: $b_1(1235)$, $h_1(1170)$, $h_1(1380)$, $a_1(1260)$, $f_1(1285)$ and two poles to the $K_1(1270)$ resonance. We evaluate the couplings of the resonances to the $VP$ states and the partial de…

Meson exchange currents in theHe3(γ,π+)3H reaction

1996

We generate meson exchange currents mechanisms for the (\ensuremath{\gamma},${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{+}$) reaction in nuclei starting from the \ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}N amplitude on one nucleon and allowing one of the pions to be produced off shell and be absorbed by a second nucleon. Detailed calculations are presented for the \ensuremath{\gamma} $^{3}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+3}$H reaction, where we show that the cross section at large momentum transfers is dominated by these mechanisms, helping improve the agreement with experimental data. It is also shown that the meson exchange currents produce important effects in the photon a…

Pion cloud contribution to the s-wave repulsion in pionic atoms

1995

Abstract The nuclear pion cloud contribution to the pion self-energy for pionic atoms is evaluated and one finds large cancellations between terms involving the ππ amplitude and other terms originating from the chiral lagrangian partners. While the individual terms depend strongly on the off-shell extrapolation of the ππ amplitude, the sum is model independent within the Olson and Turner family of chiral lagrangians keeping ξ + 4 η constant, as previously found for the πN → ππN and pion double-charge exchange in nuclei, and vanishes in the limit of m π → 0. One finds a small net repulsion which is however too small to account for the “missing” s-wave repulsion. A revision of the present sta…

Generalized polarizabilities of the nucleon in chiral effective theories

1999

Using the techniques of chiral effective field theories we evaluate the so called generalized polarizabilities of the nucleon, which characterize the structure dependent components in virtual Compton scattering (VCS) as probed in the electron scattering reaction e N \to e' N gamma. Results are given for both spin-dependent and spin-independent structure effects to O(p^3) in SU(2) Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory and to O(epsilon^3) in the SU(2) Small Scale Expansion. Finally we compare our calculations with results from the pioneering VCS experiment on the proton from Mainz.

Short range correlations in the pion s-wave self-energy of pionic atoms

1995

We evaluate the contribution of second order terms to the pion-nucleus s-wave optical potential of pionic atoms generated by short range nuclear correlation. The corrections are sizeable because they involve the isoscalar s-wave $\pi N$ amplitude for half off-shell situations where the amplitude is considerably larger than the on-shell one. In addition, the s-wave optical potential is reanalyzed by looking at all the different conventional contributions together lowest order, Pauli corrected rescattering term, second order absorptive effects, terms from the interaction of pions with the virtual pion cloud (chiral corrections) and correlation effects. Different off-shell extrapolations for t…

Meson exchange currents in kaon scattering on the lightest nuclei

1997

The K^+ scattering on the lightest nuclei, d, 3He and 4He is studied in the framework of multiple scattering theory. Effects from MEC tied to the K^+N-->KNpi reaction are evaluated. We found that at momentum transfers Q^2<0.5 (GeV/c)^2 contributions from MEC are much smaller than kaon rescattering corrections. This makes the conventional multiple scattering picture a reliable tool to study these reactions in this kinematical domain and to extract the K^+n scattering amplitude from the K^+d data. At larger transferred momentum MEC can become more relevant.

Kaon-antikaon nuclear optical potentials and the kappa meson in the nuclear medium

2004

We study the properties of the kappa meson in the nuclear medium, starting from a chiral unitary model of S-wave, I=1/2 K-pi scattering, which describes the elastic K-pi phase shifts and generates a pole in the amplitude. Medium effects are considered by including pion and kaon selfenergies. We explore the changes in the kappa pole position and in the K-pi scattering amplitude at finite density, with two different models for the kaon selfenergy.

Branching ratios of mesonic and nonmesonic antikaon absorptions in nuclear medium

2012

The branching ratios of K^- absorption at rest in nuclear matter are theoretically investigated in order to understand the mechanism of K^- absorption into nuclei. For this purpose mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are evaluated as functions of nuclear density, the kaon momentum and energy from one- and two-body K^- self-energy, respectively. By using a chiral unitary approach for the s-wave Kbar N amplitude we find that both the mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are dominated by the Lambda(1405) contributions. The fraction of the mesonic and nonmesonic absorptions are evaluated to be respectively about 70% and 30% at the saturation density almost independently on the …

Effects of pseudoscalar-baryon channels in the dynamically generated vector-baryon resonances

2012

We study the interaction of vector mesons with the octet of stable baryons in the framework of the local hidden gauge formalism using a coupled channels unitary approach, including also the pseudoscalar-baryon channels which couple to the same quantum numbers. We examine the scattering amplitudes and their poles, which can be associated to known $J^P=1/2^-,3/2^-$ baryon resonances, and determine the role of the pseudoscalar-baryon channels, changing the width and eventually the mass of the resonances generated with only the basis of vector-baryon states.

Pion electroproduction in the 3He(e,é π+)3H reaction at intermediate energies

1997

Abstract The differential coincident pion electroproduction cross section in the 3 He(e,e π + ) 3 H reaction has been measured with high resolution with the three-spectrometer set-up at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI) electron accelerator. Measurements were performed at the four incident energies E 0 = 855, 675, 600, and 555 MeV at fixed four-momentum transfer Q 2 = 0.045 GeV 2 , with the pions detected in parallel kinematics. This enables a separation of the measured cross section into the transverse and longitudinal structure functions by means of the Rosenbluth method. The experimental data are compared to model calculations, in which the elementary pion production amplitude includes the stan…
