Asymmetric linear Ge(Li)Ge(Li) sum-peak coincidence spectrometer

Abstract An asymmetric linear Ge(Li)Ge(Li) sum-peak coincidence spectrometer configuration has been designed and tested. In this system, the ratio of the gains of two detector-amplifier chains is chosen around 1.2 to 1.3, and the pulse amplitudes or addresses due to coincident events are summed. The simple method introduced involving a single run which results in two spectra (separated according to which detector records the larger energy) appears to be quite useful in γγ coincidence and directional correlation measurements, especially in laboratories where no event-by-event data acquisition hardware are available.
Vector meson-baryon dynamics in photoproduction reactions around 2 GeV

We investigate the role of vector mesons and coupled-channel unitarization on photoproduction reactions off the proton at energies around 2 GeV. We explain the sudden drop on the γp → K 0 Σ + cross section, observed recently by the CBELSA/TAPS collaboration, by a delicate interference between amplitudes having K ∗ Λ and K ∗ Σ in- termediate states modulated by the presence of a nearby N ∗ resonance produced by our model, a feature that we have employed to predict its properties. We also show the impor- tance of coupled-channel unitarization in the γp → K ∗ 0 Σ + reaction, measured recently by CBELSA/TAPS and CLAS with conflicting results.
K+Λ photoproduction amplitudes incorporating absorptive effects and hypernuclear formation

Incorporating final-state absorptive effects, we have reexamined the γp→K+Λ elementary process to obtain amplitudes which are used for describing photoproduction of hypernuclei. Our model not only resolves the persisting trouble of the small KNΛ coupling constant, but also yields agreement with cross-section data at higher energies. Using our amplitudes, we calculate angular distributions for the reaction16O(γ, K+)Λ16N. While the forward cross-section increases with increasing energy, the total cross-section is found to remain almost constant fromEγ=1.2 GeV through 2 GeV, which suggests that rather low photon energies hold promise for exploration of hypernuclear excitations.
Constraints on the CKM angleγinB0→D¯0K*0andB0→D0K*0from a Dalitz analysis ofD0andD¯0decays toKSπ+π−

We present constraints on the angle γ of the unitarity triangle with a Dalitz analysis of neutral D decays to KSπ+π- from the processes B0→D0K*0 (B0→D0K*0) and B0→D0K*0 (B0→D0K*0) with K*0→K+π- (K*0→K-π+). Using a sample of 371×106 BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at PEP-II, we constrain the angle γ as a function of rS, the magnitude of the average ratio between b→u and b→c amplitudes. © 2009 The American Physical Society.
Dalitz plot analysis ofBs0→D¯0K−π+decays

The resonant substructure of B-s(0) -> (D) over bar K-0(-)pi(+) decays is studied with the Dalitz plot analysis technique. The study is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) of pp collision data recorded by LHCb. A structure at m((D) over bar K-0(-)) approximate to 2.86 GeV/c(2) is found to be an admixture of spin-1 and spin-3 resonances. The masses and widths of these states and of the D-s2*(2573)(-) meson are measured, as are the complex amplitudes and fit fractions for all the (D) over bar K-0(-) and K-pi(-) components included in the amplitude model. In addition, the D-s2*(2573)(-) resonance is confirmed to be spin 2.
Microscopic study of muon-capture transitions in nuclei involved in double-beta-decay processes

Abstract Total and partial ordinary muon-capture (OMC) rates to 1 + and 2 − states are calculated in the framework of the proton–neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) for several nuclei involved in double-beta-decay processes. The aim is to obtain information on intermediate states involved in double-beta-decay transitions having these nuclei as either daughter or parent nuclei. It is found that the OMC observables, just like the 2 νββ -decay amplitudes, strongly depend on the particle–particle part of the proton–neutron interaction. First experiments measuring the partial OMC rates for nuclei involved in double beta decays have recently been performed.
Determination of γ and−2βsfrom charmless two-body decays of beauty mesons

Using the latest LHCb measurements of time-dependent CP violation in the B-s(0) -> K+K- decay, a U-spin relation between the decay amplitudes of B-s(0) -> K+K- and B-0 -> p(+)p(-) decay processes allows constraints to be placed on the angle gamma of the unitarity triangle and on the B-s(0) mixing phase -2 beta(s). Results from an extended approach, which uses additional inputs on B-0 -> pi(0)pi(0) and B+ -> pi(+)pi(0) decays from other experiments and exploits isospin symmetry, are also presented. The resonant substructures of $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 \pi^+\pi^-$ decays are studied with the Dalitz plot technique. In this study a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions collected by the LHCb detector is used. The branching fraction of the $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 \pi^+\pi^-$ decay in the region $m(\overline{D}^0\pi^{\pm})>2.1$ GeV$/c^2$ is measured to be $(8.46 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.40) \times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic and the last arises from the normalisation channel $B^0 \to D^*(2010)^-\pi^+$. Correspondingly it can be expected that the study of polarization phenomena in antiproton-nucleon scattering will also help us to resolve — at least partly — the complicated spin structure of the antiproton-nucleon amplitudes.
Triangle amplitude with off-shell CoulombTmatrix for exchange reactions in atomic and nuclear physics

The lowest-order rescattering contribution (triangle amplitude) in three-body models of exchange reactions with charged particles contains the off-shell two-body T matrix describing the intermediate-state Coulomb scattering of charged subsystems. General properties of the exact exchange triangle amplitude, when the incoming and outgoing particles are on the energy shell, are derived.
