Electroweak penguins in isospin-violating Bs decays
2011
¯Bs ! φ π 0 and ¯ Bs ! φ ρ 0 , which are dominated by EW penguins. Our results extend the analysis in [1] and have recently been published in [2]. Here we give a brief overview of the outcome. We show that in presence of a new EW penguin amplitude the two Bs branching ratios can be enhanced by an order of magnitude without violating any constraints from other hadronic B decays. This makes them very interesting modes for LHCb and Super B factories. We perform both a model-independent analysis and a study within realistic New Physics (NP) models such as a modified- Z 0 -penguin scenario, a model with an additional Z 0 boson and the MSSM, including a fit to B ! πK data and the relevant experim…
Methods of calculation for the T-matrix
1991
In the preceding section we have shown how the observables can be expressed in terms of the T-matrix elements or in terms of the multipole amplitudes OLλ(μjls) which contain all the relevant information on the dynamical properties of the system. For the calculation of these amplitudes a variety of different methods have been developed utilizing various kinds of approximations.
Stability of gyrotron operation in very high-order modes
2012
This study was motivated by the desire to increase the power, which can be delivered by gyrotrons in long pulse and continuous regimes. Since the admissible power level is determined by the density of ohmic losses in resonator walls, to increase the radiated power a gyrotron should operate in higher order modes. Using an existing gyrotron developed for plasma experiments in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor as a base model, the stability of operation of such a gyrotron in modes with larger number of radial variations was studied. It is shown that the power level achievable in such gyrotrons in stable single mode regimes is close to 1.5 MW. The power level 1.7–1.8 MW can b…
Size of the accretion disk in the gravitationally lensed quasar SDSS J1004+4112 from the statistics of microlensing magnifications
2016
We present eight monitoring seasons of the four brightest images of the gravitational lens SDSS J1004+4112 observed between December 2003 and October 2010. Using measured time delays for the images A, B and C and the model predicted time delay for image D we have removed the intrinsic quasar variability, finding microlensing events of about 0.5 and 0.7 mag of amplitude in the images C and D. From the statistics of microlensing amplitudes in images A, C, and D, we have inferred the half-light radius (at {\lambda} rest = 2407 {\AA}) for the accretion disk using two different methods, $R_{1/2}=8.7^{+18.5}_{-5.5} \sqrt{M/0.3 M_\odot}$ (histograms product) and $R_{1/2} = 4.2^{+3.2}_{-2.2} \sqrt{…
Characterization and Error Compensation of a Rogowski Coil in the Presence of Harmonics
2011
This paper reports the results of an experimental study dealing with a commercial Rogowski coil current transducer (RCCT) in the presence of harmonic distortion. The RCCT was observed under two conditions: 1) sinusoidal excitation with frequencies from 50 to 750 Hz and 2) nonsinusoidal excitation using fundamental frequency and one harmonic, with adjustable amplitude and phase shift. The experimental results show only a weak dependence of the harmonic current ratio error and phase displacement on the amplitude and phase shift of the excitation harmonic. The phase displacement is also independent of the conductor position within the Rogowski coil window. An error compensation method, based o…
Harmonic reduction in CHB 13-level inverters by PAM fundamental-frequency strategy
2019
In this paper cascaded H-bridges (CHB) 13-level inverters are considered and a particular pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) strategy is introduced to mitigate or eliminate many harmonic components on the output voltage, in order to obtain low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) factor. This procedure defines different dc voltage sources and sets of six switching angles, depending on an integer parameter $q$ belonging to the close interval $I=[11, 15]$ . The obtained THD doesn't depend on modulation index $m$ . The control of $m$ is made by changing the dc voltage sources that depend linearly on m, while the switching angles remain constant. An investigation about the role of the $q$ parameter on…
Pattern selection in the 2D FitzHugh–Nagumo model
2018
We construct square and target patterns solutions of the FitzHugh–Nagumo reaction–diffusion system on planar bounded domains. We study the existence and stability of stationary square and super-square patterns by performing a close to equilibrium asymptotic weakly nonlinear expansion: the emergence of these patterns is shown to occur when the bifurcation takes place through a multiplicity-two eigenvalue without resonance. The system is also shown to support the formation of axisymmetric target patterns whose amplitude equation is derived close to the bifurcation threshold. We present several numerical simulations validating the theoretical results.
Thermodynamische Stabilitt makromolekularer Kristalle
1960
The density of free energy of a chain crystal contains two terms of opposed sign dependent on the numberN of chain elements in the straight section of the macromolecules between the surfaces of the crystal perpendicular to thec-axis. The surface energy contributes a positive term decreasing withN. The amplitude Φ of the periodic lattice field opposing the chain translation in thec-axis yields the negative term. Due to the incoherent longitudinal thermal vibration of the four first-order neighbours of any chain the fieldΦ is smeared out. Its amplitude decreases the more the higherN and hence yields an increase in free energy density with increasingN. As a consequence of the opposite sign of …
On the microwave background anisotropy produced by big voids in open universes
1996
The Tolman-Bondi solution of the Einstein equations is used in order to model the time evolution of the void observed in Bo\"otes. The present density contrast of the central region ($\sim -0.75$) and its radius ($\sim 30h^{-1} \ Mpc$) are fixed, while the density parameter of the Universe, the amplitude of the density contrast inside the void wall, the width of this wall and the distance from the void centre to the Local Group are appropriately varied. The microwave background anisotropy produced by Bo\"otes-like voids is estimated for a significant set of locations. All the voids are placed far from the last scattering surface. It is shown that the anisotropy generated by these voids stro…
Long-time dynamics of modulated waves in a nonlinear discrete LC transmission line.
2003
International audience; The long-time dynamics of modulated waves in a nonlinear LC transmission line is investigated. Considering the higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation, we define analytically the conditions leading to the instability of modulated waves. We show that two kinds of instabilities may develop in the network depending on the frequency range of the chosen carrier wave and on the magnitude of its initial amplitude, which is confirmed by our numerical simulations. The nonreproducibility of numerical experiments on modulated waves is also considered.
