Binding of acrylic and sulphonic polyanions by open-chain polyammonium cations
2000
Abstract The interactions between some acrylic and sulphonic polyanions and some protonated amines (diamines NH 2 -(CH 2 ) x -NH 2 , x =2,…,10; linear tri-, tetra-, penta- and hexa-amines) were studied potentiometrically in aqueous solution, at 25°C. For both types of polyanions AL 2 H i (L − , monomer of polyanion, A, amine) species are formed, with i =1,…, n ( n =number of amino groups in the amine). The stability of these species is strictly dependent on the polyammonium cation charge, and fairly independent of the type of amine (in diamine species maximum stability is observed for x =4, 5). Acrylic and sulphonic polyanion complexes are considerably stronger than analogous species formed…
Temperature and pH Dependence of Gd-DOTA and Gd-DTPA Complexes Dissociation Studied by EXAFS
1997
The Gd L3-edge of Gd(DTPA) 2- and Gd(DOTA) - complexes, in crystalline state and aqueous solutions presenting various pH (0.15-8) at different temperatures (25-90 °C), are investigated by XAFS experiments. For the Gd(DTPA) 2- . complexes we observe a strong pH (0.15-1.5) dependence of XAFS signals. On the other hand, the XAFS signals of Gd(DOTA) - complexes exhibit a light pH (1-1.5) dependence and for pH<1 we observe a ligand decomposition. Conceming both complexes, we note just a light temperature dependence. To obtain information about the short and medium range order (up to 5 A), multiple scattering calculation is performed. For the first coordination shell, we apply multi-shell fitting…
The orientational glass state of argon:Nitrogen and cyanide mixed crystals
1990
Abstract Solid solutions of Ar:N 2 and ( KBr ) 1− x ( KCN ) x mixed crystals show a so-called orientational glass state where the orientations of the aspherical species, N 2 respectively CN - , are frozen in random patterns. The main experimental characteristics of this state and the pertinent theoretical concepts are discussed.
Trace element determination in sediments: a comparative study between neutron activation analysis (NAA) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrome…
2000
An inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) method has been employed for trace element determination in five real sediment samples and a standard reference material. These samples were mineralized by dry ashing at 550°C and fused at 1100°C for 30 min with lithium metaborate. Dissolved samples were measured by a semiquantitative methodology with external calibration and with Rh as an internal standard. More than 50 elements have been measured. As a reference technique, a direct analysis of the solid samples was carried out by neutron activation analysis. Results obtained by ICP-MS have been compared with those obtained by neutron activation analysis (NAA) by applying the paired …

A guide for selecting the most appropriate method for ammonium determination in water analysis
2006
Abstract We have critically evaluated the main parameters involved in determining ammonium in water samples, in order to select the most suitable method appropriate to the requirements of the analysis. We compared several methods: reference (ion-selective electrodes, Nessler and indophenol); Roth’s modified; based on luminol reaction; and, based on peroxioxalate reaction.

Effect of S1 Torsional Dynamics on the Time-Resolved Fluorescence Spectra of 9,9‘-Bianthryl in Solution
1997
Time-resolved fluorescence spectra of 9,9‘-bianthryl (BA) were measured in methylcyclohexane (MCH) and a Decalin−isooctane (D−ISOO) mixture at several temperatures between 127 and 200 K. A suitable...
