CH vs. HC—Promiscuous Metal Sponges in Antimicrobial Peptides and Metallophores

Histidine and cysteine residues, with their imidazole and thiol moieties that deprotonate at approximately physiological pH values, are primary binding sites for Zn(II), Ni(II) and Fe(II) ions and are thus ubiquitous both in peptidic metallophores and in antimicrobial peptides that may use nutritional immunity as a way to limit pathogenicity during infection. We focus on metal complex solution equilibria of model sequences encompassing Cys–His and His–Cys motifs, showing that the position of histidine and cysteine residues in the sequence has a crucial impact on its coordination properties. Abstract The digestion methods for the determination of As, Cd, Cr, Pb, Sb, Sn and Zn concentrations in plastic samples using microwave-assisted digestion (MW-AD) and small-size autoclave digestion was developed. The certified polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene certified reference materials were used in order to find digestion method working properly for several sample matrices. Efficiency of the digestion methods was evaluated by analyzing the residual carbon in digests by TOC analyzer. Analytical models for the pulse shape of a superconductor-ferromagnet tunnel junction thermoelectric microcalorimeter

AbstractThe superconductor-ferromagnet thermoelectric detector (SFTED) is a novel ultrasensitive radiation detector based on the giant thermoelectric effect in superconductor-ferromagnet tunnel junctions. We demonstrate analytical models and solutions in the time domain for a SFTED operated as a microcalorimeter (pulse excitation), in the linear small-signal limit. Based on these solutions, the signal current and temperature pulse response were studied for two different electrical circuit models, providing design conditions for stable and non-oscillatory response.Kindly check and confirm whether the corresponding author is correctly identified.The corresponding author is correct.

Discrimination of almonds (Prunus dulcis) geographical origin by minerals and fatty acids profiling

Twenty-one almond samples from three different geographical origins (Sicily, Spain and California) were investigated by determining minerals and fatty acids compositions. Data were used to discriminate by chemometry almond origin by linear discriminant analysis. With respect to previous PCA profiling studies, this work provides a simpler analytical protocol for the identification of almonds geographical origin. Classification by using mineral contents data only was correct in 77% of the samples, while, by using fatty acid profiles, the percentages of samples correctly classified reached 82%. Despite the critical role of integration as a methodological concept in mixed methods studies, researchers lack a theory for integrating. In this article, we introduce the concept of integrative strategy by analyzing three mixed methods rehabilitation-related studies. These studies represented an analytical strategy based on a multiperspective stakeholder approach, a theory-bound analytical strategy, and a theory-oriented synthesizing strategy. Phase-selective low molecular weight organogelators derived from allylated D-mannose

In the last decades, synthesis and design of low molecular weight organogelators has gained increasing attention due to their versatile use in, for example, cosmetics, biomedicine and oil spill remediation. In this work, three potential gelators have been prepared from allylated d-mannose. Both the gelators and the corresponding gels formed were thoroughly characterized by crystallography, FTIR spectroscopy, SEM, rheometry and NMR spectroscopy, in solution and in solid state.
