Use and Identification of Components in Component-Based Software Development Methods

2000

New software systems are needed ever more but to keep up with this trend software developers must learn to create quality software more efficiently. One approach is to (re-)use components as building blocks of the new software. Recently there has been more interest to create component-based software development methods to support this. In this article we first set out requirements for reuse-based software development and then evaluate three component-based methods, namely Catalysis, OMT++, and Unified Process. As a conclusion we argue that evaluated methods produce prefabricated components and that component-based means that software developers can change better components to existing syste…

An Information Aggregation and Analytics System for ATLAS Frontier

2019

International audience; ATLAS event processing requires access to centralized database systems where information about calibrations, detector status and data-taking conditions are stored. This processing is done on more than 150 computing sites on a world-wide computing grid which are able to access the database using the Squid-Frontier system. Some processing workflows have been found which overload the Frontier system due to the Conditions data model currently in use, specifically because some of the Conditions data requests have been found to have a low caching efficiency. The underlying cause is that non-identical requests as far as the caching are actually retrieving a much smaller num…

La Educación Musical en España dentro del currículo obligatorio de Educación Secundaria : estudio comparado entre comunidades autónomas

2020

Despite the fact that there are many studies that identify that the Music Education provides numerous benefits to all those students who study it, the truth is that in Spain there is a regression of its presence in the Compulsory Education as the different educational laws are enacted. If during the LOGSE (1990) both Art and Music Education were compulsory within their respective educational stages, in the last years with the LOMCE (2013) these subjects have become optional. In this way, their presence is at the mercy of the Autonomous Communities. Specifically, this article analyses the current situation of Music within the Compulsory Secondary Education through a comparative study among t…

Effects of feedback on self-efficacy, performance, and choice in an athletic task

1999

Abstract The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of feedback on self-efficacy, performance, and task choice, and the mediating effects of self-efficacy in the feedback-performance and task choice relationships. Participants were 69 Spanish students, 46 males and 23 females, between 18 and 24 years. The experimental paradigm consisted of three sessions. In the first, participants performed on the hurdles. In the second, manipulated feedback referring to the previous performance was provided. Participants then estimated their self-efficacy for a second task which they later performed. In the third session, participants were presented with three tasks involving clearing hurdles of p…

Proposal of an Architecture to Retrieve Information from Multiple Devices Using Matchmaking Algorithms

2007

Semantic Web services (SWS) propose to extend the traditional Web services technologies on the way to consolidate ontologies and semantics. This makes possible the selection, the integration and the dynamic invocation of services. In this way, services are able to dynamically adapt themselves to changes without human intervention. The main purpose of this paper is to present an algorithm for matching SWS. The algorithm uses the description of the services capabilities to match the semantic values. The traditional matching has been improving using ontologies witch constitutes a step further in the matching algorithms. To implement the algorithm an agent FIPA compliant architecture has been d…

Bot or not? a case study on bot recognition from web session logs

2018

This work reports on a study of web usage logs to verify whether it is possible to achieve good recognition rates in the task of distinguishing between human users and automated bots using computational intelligence techniques. Two problem statements are given, offline (for completed sessions) and on-line (for sequences of individual HTTP requests). The former is solved with several standard computational intelligence tools. For the second, a learning version of Wald’s sequential probability ratio test is used.

Experimental Performance Evaluation of Cloud-Based Analytics-as-a-Service

2016

An increasing number of Analytics-as-a-Service solutions has recently seen the light, in the landscape of cloud-based services. These services allow flexible composition of compute and storage components, that create powerful data ingestion and processing pipelines. This work is a first attempt at an experimental evaluation of analytic application performance executed using a wide range of storage service configurations. We present an intuitive notion of data locality, that we use as a proxy to rank different service compositions in terms of expected performance. Through an empirical analysis, we dissect the performance achieved by analytic workloads and unveil problems due to the impedance…

Mobile solution for better reading instruction in rural Africa

2015

GraphoGame Teacher Training Service is a mobile-based solution for providing teachers with scientifically validated pedagogical training in literacy instruction. In many African countries teachers currently have insufficient knowledge to teach literacy in local languages and learning materials are scarce, especially for children with learning difficulties. As part of the GraphoWorld network, CAPOLSA/University of Zambia is developing new mobile-based method for providing in-service training for teachers in literacy instruction and assisting children with learning difficulties. GraphoGame Teacher Training Service was piloted in October 2014 in rural Zambia. An orientative workshop was given …

Similarity estimation module for OWSCIS

2008

Semantic interoperability based on ontologies is nowadays becoming a great challenge. We propose an architecture for semantic-based cooperation called OWSCIS (Ontology and Web Service based Cooperation of Information Sources). It allows to map various information sources using ontologies and to answer users' queries over the cooperation. In this paper we focus on the similarity estimation service of the OWSCIS Architecture which allows to discover mappings between different ontologies. It relies on various mappings methods which are combined and refined to semi-automatically generate mappings between a local and a reference ontologies.

Evolving e-government benchmarking to better cover technology development and emerging societal needs

2012

Many international e-government benchmarks seek to measure progress towards various versions of a digital society, and in this endeavor include a component of e-government. But because comparable international e-government data are scarce, most reports rely on the United Nations E-Government Development Index, specifically its Online Service Index as a benchmark. However, this assessment only captures national level initiatives at a broad level and does not link evaluation to outcomes and impacts, i.e. e-government performance relative to investment. This paper briefly reviews the current UN framework and assesses how it can evolve to meet new demands, such as calls to better connect investm…
