Spectral Transmittance of Intraocular Lenses under Natural and Artificial Illumination
2011
Purpose To compare the spectral transmission of different intraocular lenses (IOLs) with either ultraviolet (UV) or blue-light filters, and to analyze the performance of these filters with artificial light sources as well as sunlight. Design Experimental study. Methods The spectral transmission curve of 10 IOLs was measured using a PerkinElmer Lambda 800 UV/VIS spectrometer (Waltham, MA). Different filtering simulations were performed using the D65 standard illuminant as daylight and standard incandescent lamp and fluorescent bulb illuminants. Main Outcomes Measures Spectral transmittance of the IOLs. Results All the IOLs studied provide good UVC (200–280 nm) and UVB (280–315 nm) protection…
Late Cenozoic brittle deformation in the Southern Patagonian Andes: Record of plate coupling/decoupling during variable subduction?
2018
The Andes of southern Patagonia experienced a Miocene shift towards faster and higher angle subduction followed by the approach and collision of the Chile oceanic ridge. We present a kinematic study characterizing palaeostress fields computed from brittle tectonics to better constrain upper crustal deformation during this complex scenario. Although previous studies already suggested variable kinematics, it is striking that in a long-lasting subduction environment, the computed palaeostress tensors are mostly strike-slip (55%), while 35% are extensional, and only 10% compressive which are concentrated along a main frontal thrust. Cross-cutting relationships and synsedimentary deformation ind…

Survey sampling for functionnal data : building asymptotic confidence bands and considering auxiliary information
2011
When collections of functional data are too large to be exhaustively observed, survey sampling techniques provide an effective way to estimate global quantities such as the population mean function, without being obligated to store all the data. In this thesis, we propose a Horvitz–Thompson estimator of the mean trajectory, and with additional assumptions on the sampling design, we state a functional Central Limit Theorem and deduce asymptotic confidence bands. For a fixed sample size, we show that stratified sampling can greatly improve the estimation compared to simple random sampling. In addition, we extend Neyman’s rule of optimal allocation to the functional context. Taking into accoun…
Actitudes de emprendimiento y los "Cinco Grandes": una compa-ración intercultural entre España y Estados Unidos.
2022
Culture may interact with personality to facilitate or inhibit en-trepreneurial behaviors. 296 undergraduates in the United States and 257 in Spain completed the Big Five Personality Inventory and the Entrepreneur-ial Attitudes Scale for Students (Mean age = 20.16 years; SD = 3.39). We hypothesized that across cultures, conscientiousness and openness would predict greater risk taking whereas neuroticism and agreeableness would be a negative correlate. Personality variables explained a larger proportion of the variance in entrepreneurial attitudes in the U.S. data. The associations between the personality dimensions and entrepreneurship varied consider-ably by country and gender. Significant…
Traduzione, interpretazione e identità: l'esperienza di alcuni poeti irlandesi
2012
The article offers an overview of the different ways in which Irish poets have been influenced by Italian writers: translations and readaptations are examined in order to show how a foreign text/theme is each time exploited for the affirmation of one's own identity.
