Laser control in open molecular systems: STIRAP and Optimal Control

2007

We examine the effect of dissipation on the laser control of a process that transforms a state into a superposed state. We consider a two-dimensional double well of a single potential energy surface. In the context of reactivity, the objective of the control is the localization in a given well, for instance the creation of an enantiomeric form whereas for quantum gates, this control corresponds to one of the transformation of the Hadamard gate. The environment is either modelled by coupling few harmonic oscillators (up to five) to the system or by an effective interaction with an Ohmic bath. In the discrete case, dynamics is carried out exactly by using the coupled harmonic adiabatic channe…

Unexpected Substituent Effects in the Iso-Heterocyclic Boulton-Katritzky Rearrangement of 3-Aroylamino-5-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles: A Mechanistic Stud…

2019

The kinetics of the iso-heterocyclic mononuclear rearrangement of some 3-aroylamino-5-methyl-1,2,4-ozadiazoles was carefully examined under largely variable acidic or alkaline conditions. This reaction may proceed via two different mechanistic pathways (an uncatalyzed and a base-catalyzed one), as accounted for also by the evaluation of the relevant activation parameters. Substituent effects, as quantified by means of the Hammett’s equation, appear relatively modest; however, they reveal some interesting anomalies, which enabled us to draw a very precise picture of the intimate reaction course.

Adaptive Finite Temperature String Method in Collective Variables.

2017

Here we present a modified version of the on-the-fly string method for the localization of the minimum free energy path in a space of arbitrary collective variables. In the proposed approach the shape of the biasing potential is controlled by only two force constants, defining the width of the potential along the string and orthogonal to it. The force constants and the distribution of the string nodes are optimized during the simulation, improving the convergence. The optimized parameters can be used for umbrella sampling with a path CV along the converged string as the reaction coordinate. We test the new method with three fundamentally different processes: chloride attack to chloromethane…

Introducing Memory in Coarse-Grained Molecular Simulations

2021

[Image: see text] Preserving the correct dynamics at the coarse-grained (CG) level is a pressing problem in the development of systematic CG models in soft matter simulation. Starting from the seminal idea of simple time-scale mapping, there have been many efforts over the years toward establishing a meticulous connection between the CG and fine-grained (FG) dynamics based on fundamental statistical mechanics approaches. One of the most successful attempts in this context has been the development of CG models based on the Mori–Zwanzig (MZ) theory, where the resulting equation of motion has the form of a generalized Langevin equation (GLE) and closely preserves the underlying FG dynamics. In…

Unravelling the kinetics and molecular mechanism of the degenerate Cope rearrangement of bullvalene

2020

The kinetics and molecular mechanism of the gas phase degenerate Cope rearrangement (DCR) of bullvalene have been investigated by applying quantum mechanical calculations. Highly accurate energies (CBS-QB3 and CBS-APNO) and RRKM calculations were employed to study the kinetics and ‘fall-off’ behavior. It was found that the DCR of bullvalene (C3v) occurs through a bishomoaromatic transition structure (C2v) with an energy barrier of ∼49 kJ mol−1. The calculated activation energy and enthalpy were in good agreement with the available values in the literature, but lower than those of common Cope rearrangement; this result is related to the high stabilization energy due to the interaction of the…

Model building on the non-factorisable type IIA T6/(Z4×ΩR) orientifold

2016

We construct global semi-realistic supersymmetric models with intersecting D6-branes on the non-factorisable orientifold . The non-factorisable structure gives rise to differences compared to the factorisable case: additional conditions for the three-cycles to be Lagrangian and extra constraints on the wrapping numbers for building fractional cycles.

Optical quantum information processing and storage

2018

Here we report our recent experimental progresses in optical quantum information processing. In particular, the following topics are included. First, we extend the heralding scheme to multi-mode states and demonstrate heralded creation of qutrit states. Next, we demonstrate storage of single-photon states and synchronized release of them. Then, we demonstrate real-time acquisition of quadrature values of heralded states by making use of an exponentially rising shape of wave-packets. Finally, we demonstrate cluster states in an arbitrarily long chain in the longitudinal direction.

Sensitive Assays by Nucleophile-Induced Rearrangement of Photoactivated Diarylethenes.

2018

Upon light-induced isomerization, diarylethenes (DAEs) equipped with reactive aldehyde moieties rearrange selectively in the presence of amines, accompanied by decoloration. In a comprehensive study, the probe structure was optimized with regard to its inherent reactivity in the nucleophile-triggered rearrangement reaction. Detailed structure−reactivity relationships could be derived, in particular with regard to the type of integrated (het)aryl moieties as well as the location of the formyl residue, and the probes’ intrinsic reactivity with primary and secondary amines was optimized. Utilizing an ancillary base, the initially formed rearrangement product can engage in a subsequent catalyti…
