Examination of the influence of transfer channels on the barrier height distribution: Scattering ofNe20onNi58,Ni60, andNi61at near-barrier energies
2016
Background: It was suggested that the shape of the barrier height distribution can be determined not only by strong reaction channels (collective excitations) but also by weak channels such as transfers and/or noncollective excitations.Purpose: The study of the barrier height distributions for the $^{20}\mathrm{Ne}+\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{58,60,61}\mathrm{Ni}$ systems requires information on transfer cross sections at near-barrier energies. Methods: A measurement of the cross sections for various transfer channels at a backward angle (142 degrees), at a near-barrier energy was performed. Identification of products was based on time-of-flight and $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}E\text{\ens…
How Universal is the Scaling Theory of Localization?
1991
The numerical implementation of the one-parameter scaling theory of localization is reviewed for the Anderson model of disordered solids. A finite-size scaling procedure is used to derive the 3D localization length and d.c.-conductivity from the raw data computed for quasi-1D systems by the strip-and-bar method. While a common scaling function can be unambiguously obtained for different distributions of the diagonal disorder in the Anderson model, discrepancies appear between the box and the Gaussian distribution with regard to the derived critical exponents. To discuss these effects, new results are presented for a triangular distribution, and a new method for the computation of the critic…

Exclusive production of pion and kaon meson pairs in two photon collisions at LEP
2003
Exclusive production of pi and K meson pairs in two photon collisions is measured with ALEPH data collected between 1992 and 2000. Cross-sections are presented as a function of cos theta* and invariant mass, for \ cos theta* \ < 0.6 and invariant masses between 2.0 and 6.0 GeV/c(2) (2.25 and 4.0 GeV/c(2)) for pions (kaons). The shape of the distributions are found to be well described by QCD predictions but the data have a significantly higher normalization. (C) 2003 Published by Elsevier B.V.
The decay
2010
In this paper the potential for the discovery of new physics in the exclusive decay B ¯ d → K ¯ ⁎ 0 μ + μ − is discussed. Attention is paid to constructing observables which are protected from uncertainties in QCD form factors and at the same time observe the symmetries of the angular distribution. We discuss the sensitivity to new physics in the observables including the effect of CP-violating phases.
Observation ofe+e−→ρ+ρ−nears=10.58 GeV
2008
We report the first observation of e^+e^- → ρ^+ρ^-, in a data sample of 379 fb^(-1) collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring at center-of-mass energies near √s = 10:58 GeV. We measure a cross section of σ(e^+e^- → ρ^+ρ^-)= 8:3 ± 0:7(stat)± 0:8(syst) fb within the range of │cosθ^*│ < 0:8 and │ cosθ_±│ < 0:85, where θ^* is the center-of-mass polar angle of the ρ^± meson and θ_± are the angles in the ρ^± rest frame between the direction of the boost from the laboratory frame and the direction of the π^±. Assuming production through single-photon annihilation, there are three independent helicity amplitudes. We measure the ratios of their squared moduli to be │F_(00)│^2…
Angular distribution of inclusive lepton pairs from heavy quarkonium decay
1983
We calculate polar and azimuthal angular distributions of inclusive lepton pairs in the decay $$Q\bar Q(1^{ - - } ) \to 1^ + 1^ - + X$$ from the first order QCD process $$Q\bar Q(1^{ - - } ) \to 1^ + 1^ - + gg$$ . We provide opening angle distributions of the lepton pair in order to assess the measurability of the lepton pairs.
A$_{FB}$ in the SMEFT: precision Z physics at the LHC
2021
We study the forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$ in $pp \to \ell^+\ell^-$ at the Z peak within the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We find that this observable provides per mille level constraints on the vertex corrections of the Z boson to quarks, which close a flat direction in the electroweak precision SMEFT fit. Moreover, we show that current $A_{FB}$ data is precise enough so that its inclusion in the fit improves significantly LEP bounds even in simple New Physics setups. This demonstrates that the LHC can compete with and complement LEP when it comes to precision measurements of the Z boson properties
Measurement of theE2/M1Ratio in theN→ΔTransition Using the Reactionp(γ→,p)π0[Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 606 (1997)]
1997
The small electric quadrupole $E2$ amplitude of the predominantly magnetic dipole $M1$ $p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)$ transition has been measured using 270 to 420 MeV tagged linearly polarized photons in the $p(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\ensuremath{\gamma}},p){\ensuremath{\pi}}^{o}$ reaction at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. Differential cross sections and photon asymmetries were determined by measuring the recoil proton in the cylindrically symmetric $4\ensuremath{\pi}$ detector DAPHNE. From the proton angular distributions the ratio $E2/M1\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\ensuremath{-}(2.5\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\…
Electron Angular Distribution in Laser-Assisted X-ray Photoeffect
1981
Calculations are reported of the differential cross section of the laser-assisted X-ray photoeffect from K shells showing that drastic changes occur in the shape of the ejected-electron angular distribution when laser photons are exchanged during the ionisation. This process appears well suited to the study of laser effects and multiphoton exchanges in laser-assisted atomic collisions.
