Laser Assisted Dirac Electron in a Magnetized Annulus

2021

We study the behaviour of a charge bound on a graphene annulus under the assumption that the particle can be treated as a massless Dirac electron. The eigenstates and relative energy are found in closed analytical form. Subsequently, we consider a large annulus with radius ρ∈[5000,10,000]a0 in the presence of a static magnetic field orthogonal to its plane and again the eigenstates and eigenenergies of the Dirac electron are found in both analytical and numerical form. The possibility of designing filiform currents by controlling the orbital angular momentum and the magnetic field is shown. The currents can be of interest in optoelectronic devices that are controlled by electromagnetic radi…

Quantum Disorder in Macroscopic Systems of Interacting Atoms and Radiation Fields

1978

The linear interaction between a system of two-level atoms and an electromagnetic field can be described as taking place through a number of elementary acts in which photons are absorbed or emitted, while atoms change their states. It is conceivable that these processes tend to modify the original statistical properties characteristic of the atomic system and of the electromagnetic field at t = 0, when we assume that the interaction is “turned on”. The problem is of conceptual importance, and might become of practical importance in connection with laser processes in unusual ranges of frequency. In fact, it has recently received increasing attention in the case of one-photon interactions [1]…

Single particle motion in a Penning trap: description in the classical canonical formalism

1992

This paper aims at the development of methods for the calculation of the characteristic frequencies of a Penning trap, taking into account deviations of the actual geometry from the ideal one, anharmonicities of the electric potential, misalignments and inhomogeneities of the magnetic field, additional time dependent electromagnetic fields, and so on. The paper starts by describing the motion of a single charged particle in an ideal hyperbolic Penning trap using the formalism of classical hamiltonian mechanics. The usefulness of rotating coordinates is pointed out, and the importance of conservation of canonical angular momentum is stressed. After transformation to action-angle variables th…

Dimensional analysis and stage-discharge relationship for weirs: a review

2017

Deducing the weir flow stage-discharge relationship is a classical hydraulic problem. In this regard Buckingham’s theorem of dimensional analysis can be used to find simple and accurate formulas to obtain the rating curves of different weir types. At first, in this review paper the rectangular weir that is a very common hydraulic structure is studied. It is indicated that the crest shape, approach channel width, obliquity (angle between the weir crest and the direction normal to the flow motion) and vertical inclination (pivot weir) are the key-parameters affecting the flow over the rectangular weirs. The flow over the triangular, labyrinth, parabolic, circular, elliptical, and W-weirs are …

Hardware-in-the-loop implementation for an active heave compensated drawworks

2012

Published version of an article published in the journal: Central European Journal of Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.2478/s13531-011-0062-1 This paper presents the setup and running of a hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulation for an active heave compensated (AHC) draw-works. A simulation model of the draw-works is executed on a PC to simulate the AHC draw-works with a physical PLC. The PLC (ET200S) is configured with a controller architecture that regulates the motor angular displacement and velocity through actuation of the servo valves. Furthermore, a graphical user interface is developed for operation of the AHC system. The HIL test allowed tuning of t…

Performances Comparison for a Rotating Shaft Suspended by 4-Axis Radial Active Magnetic Bearings via 𝜇 -Synthesis, Loop-Shaping Design, and Sub ( 𝐻…

2011

The control systems applied on active magnetic bearing are several. A perfect levitation is characterized by maintaining the operating point condition that is characterized by the center of stator coincident with the geometric center of shaft. The first controller implemented for this purpose is PID controller that is characterized by an algorithm that leads the amplifier to produce control current until the operating point condition is not reached, this is obtained by an integration operator. The effect of an integrator is essential but not necessary for a centered levitation for example in the robust control characterized by a dynamic model depended on plant of system so that it depends o…

Measuring low H field and currents with AMR sensors

2017

The growing demand from the automotive industry for high accuracy magnetic sensors and the need to perform high resolution angular position measurements have been the drivers for the industrial research in magnetic sensing technologies. This paper describes the design and characterization of several experimental devices implementing simple magnetoresistive structures targeting contactless current measurement in the tens to hundreds of milliamps range with sub-mA resolution. The ultimate goal is to extend the application area of magnetoresistive sensors beyond their current niche in automotive into more general applications. The initial set of devices tested to-date has shown a sensitivity o…

Dimensionless analysis of RC rectangular sections under axial load and biaxial bending

2012

This paper proposes a numerical procedure able to provide ultimate curvature and moment domains of rectangular RC sections subjected to combined axial load and biaxial bending. The formulation is carried out in dimensionless terms in order to give results that are valid for classes of sections characterized by the same values of the geometric and mechanical parameters governing the section response. The role of some of these parameters is investigated here. The results show possible correlations linking the actual values of moment and curvature to the values corresponding to two cases of uniaxial bending to be considered separately. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

A new high accuracy software based resolver-to-digital converter

2004

Tracking resolver-to-digital conversion (R/D converter or simply RDC) has emerged as one of the most robust method for obtaining high resolution position and angular speed information from resolvers. In this paper a low cost software based RDC is presented. The main features are: high accuracy, simple set up, high reliability and stability and good performances. Some experimental results, showing the capabilities of the proposed system, are presented and discussed. An output signal comparison between the proposed RDC and a commercial encoder is also presented.
