The two sponge classes, Hexactinellida and Demospongiae, comprise a skeleton that is composed of siliceous skeletal elements (spicules). Spicule growth proceeds by appositional layering of lamellae that consist of silica nanoparticles, which are synthesized via the sponge-specific enzyme silicatein. While in demosponges during maturation the lamellae consolidate to a solid rod, the lamellar organization of hexactinellid spicules largely persists. However, the innermost lamellae, near the spicule core, can also fuse to a solid axial cylinder. The present study explored how the organisational and cultural experiences of a trainee Sport Psychology Consultant (SPC) working in professional football shaped her identity and professional development. Drawing on Cultural Sport Psychology (CSP) and gender performativity as guiding frameworks, we explored the first author’s identity development as a sport psychology practitioner-researcher within one professional football club over a 3-year duration. Gene flow is the main force opposing divergent selection, and its effects are greater in populations in close proximity. Thus, complete reproductive isolation between parapatric populations is not expected, particularly in the absence of ecological adaptation and sharp environmental differences. Here, we explore the biogeographical patterns of an endemic ant species, Cataglyphis floricola, for which two colour morphs (black and bicolour) coexist in parapatry throughout continuous sandy habitat in southern Spain. Abstract Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) produces nitric oxide (NO) from arginine. Three NOS isoforms have been identified in mammals, namely a neuronal (NOS1), an inducible (NOS2) and an endothelial (NOS3) enzyme. In zebrafish genome, one nos1 gene and two nos2 genes (nos2a and nos2b) were observed. We cloned zebrafish nos2a cDNA and compared nos2a and nos2b sequences, expression and inducibility. When analyzed by reverse transcription-PCR, the expression of nos2a remained very low during initial development, then increased at 96 hpf, while nos2b was expressed from 6 hpf and subsequently remained stable. Filamins are actin-binding proteins that participate in a wide range of cell functions, including cell morphology, locomotion, membrane protein localization, and intracellular signaling. The three filamin isoforms found in humans, filamins A, B, and C, are highly homologous, and their roles are partly complementary. In addition to actin, filamins interact with dozens of other proteins that have roles as membrane receptors and channels, enzymes, signaling intermediates, and transcription factors. Drosophila neurogenic gene neuralized (neu) is required for the maintenance of neuroblast cell fate and differentiation. In the present study we have characterized a mouse and a rat homologue of Drosophila neu. Mammalian neu1 encodes several C-terminal RING zinc finger proteins with one or two neuralized homology repeat (NHR) domains. Mammalian neu1 mRNAs are predominantly expressed in the nervous system and in the skeletal muscle with the highest levels in the adult. The MT gene/protein system of gastropod molluscs provides an invaluable model to study the diversification mechanisms that have enabled MTs to achieve metal-binding specificity through evolution. The skeleton of the siliceous sponges (Porifera: Hexactinellida and Demospongiae) is supported by spicules composed of bio-silica. In the axial canals of megascleres, harboring the axial filaments, three isoforms of the enzyme silicatein (-alpha, -beta and -gamma) have been identified until now, using the demosponges Tethya aurantium and Suberites domuncula. Here we describe the composition of the proteinaceous components of the axial filament from small spicules, the microscleres, in the demosponge Geodia cydonium that possesses megascleres and microscleres.
