Se ha realizado un estudio exhaustivo de todos los táxones pertenecientes a las familias Capitellidae y Maldanidae (Annelida, Polychaeta) en el ámbito Íbero-balear. Oxygen binding properties of non-mammalian nerve globins

Oxygen-binding globins occur in the nervous systems of both invertebrates and vertebrates. While the function of invertebrate nerve haemoglobins as oxygen stores that extend neural excitability under hypoxia has been convincingly demonstrated, the physiological role of vertebrate neuroglobins is less well understood. Here we provide a detailed analysis of the oxygenation characteristics of nerve haemoglobins from an annelid (Aphrodite aculeata), a nemertean (Cerebratulus lacteus) and a bivalve (Spisula solidissima) and of neuroglobin from zebrafish (Danio rerio). Studies on the natural hemolytic system of the annelid worm Spirographis spallanzanii viviani (Polychaeta).

Abstract Hemolytic activity in the hemolymph of Spirographis spallanzanii was estabilished against Bufo, sheep, calf, rabbit, rat, human A, B, O erythrocytes. Chemico-physical treatments suggest that the hemolytic factor could be a thermo-labile protein whose activity requires calcium ions and which is active over broad pH and temperature ranges. Some of these properties and the sigmoidal curve obtained by plotting the quantity of hemolymph against the percentage of hemolysis, produce some analogies with the mammalian lytic system.

Neuroglobin and cytoglobin: fresh blood to the vertebrate globin family

Neuroglobin and cytoglobin are two recently discovered members of the vertebrate globin family. Both are intracellular proteins endowed with hexacoordinated heme-Fe atoms, in their ferrous and ferric forms, and display O2 affinities comparable with that of myoglobin. Neuroglobin, which is predominantly expressed in nerve cells, is thought to protect neurons from hypoxic–ischemic injury. It is of ancient evolutionary origin, and is homologous to nerve globins of invertebrates. Cytoglobin is expressed in many different tissues, although at varying levels. A major 43kDa protein from the protective tube of Riftiapachyptila (Vestimentifera), named RP43, was partly microsequenced after isolation by SDS/PAGE from the protein fraction of tubes collected around the hydrothermal vents at the East Pacific Rise. Annelida, the ringed worms, is a highly diverse animal phylum that includes more than 15,000 described species and constitutes the dominant benthic macrofauna from the intertidal zone down to the deep sea. Phylogenomic studies have improved understanding of deep metazoan phylogeny and show promise for resolving incongruences among analyses based on limited numbers of loci. One region of the animal tree that has been especially difficult to resolve, even with phylogenomic approaches, is relationships within Lophotrochozoa (the animal clade that includes molluscs, annelids, and flatworms among others).
