Model-independent separation of structure functions over an extended kinematical region

1994

A method for the separation of structure functions in (e, e′ p) experiments is proposed, which is an extension of the traditional Rosenbluth-type techniques of [1,2]. In our approach, we use a very flexible Ansatz to describe the structure functions within an extended kinematical regionG and determine its free parameters with a x2 minimization. The procedure is tested by pseudo data (12C(e, e′p)11Bg.s.) in the quasi-free region.

Bilarge neutrino mixing and the Cabibbo angle

2012

Recent measurements of the neutrino mixing angles cast doubt on the validity of the so-far popular tri-bimaximal mixing ansatz. We propose a parametrization for the neutrino mixing matrix where the reactor angle seeds the large solar and atmospheric mixing angles, equal to each other in first approximation. We suggest such bi-large mixing pattern as a model building standard, realized when the leading order value of the reactor angle equals the Cabibbo angle.

A consistent study of the the low energy baryon spectrum and the nucleon-nucleon interaction within the chiral quark model

1995

By solving the Schr\"{o}dinger equation for the three-quark system in the hyperspherical harmonic approach, we have studied the low energy part of the nucleon and $\Delta$ spectra using a quark-quark interaction which reproduces the nucleon-nucleon phenomenology. The quark-quark hamiltonian considered includes, besides the usual one-gluon exchange, pion and sigma exchanges generated by the chiral symmetry breaking. The baryonic spectrum obtained is reasonable and the resulting wave function gives consistency to the ansatz used in the two baryon system.

Exclusive electroproduction of vector mesons, pseudoscalar mesons and photons in the Bjorken regime

1999

Deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) and the exclusive electroproduction of vector mesons (ϱ 0 , ϱ ± , ω, ) and pseudoscalar mesons (π 0 , π ± , …) in the Bjorken regime are sensitive to the recently introduced off-forward parton distributions. We calculate the leading order amplitudes for DVCS and hard meson electroproduction reactions in the valence region and use a model ansatz for the OFPD's to give estimates of observables relevant for experiments at COMPASS, HERMES and JLAB.

Fixed versus random triangulations in 2D Regge calculus

1997

Abstract We study 2D quantum gravity on spherical topologies using the Regge calculus approach with the dl l measure. Instead of a fixed non-regular triangulation which has been used before, we study for each system size four different random triangulations, which are obtained according to the standard Voronoi-Delaunay procedure. We compare both approaches quantitatively and show that the difference in the expectation value of R2 between the fixed and the random triangulation depends on the lattice size and the surface area A. We also try again to measure the string susceptibility exponents through a finite-size scaling Ansatz in the expectation value of an added R2 interaction term in an a…

Analytical design of densely dispersion-managed optical fiber transmission systems with Gaussian and raised cosine return-to-zero Ansätze

2004

We propose an easy and efficient way to analytically design densely dispersion-managed fiber systems for ultrafast optical communications. This analytical design is based on the exact solution of the variational equations derived from the nonlinear Schrodinger equation by use of either a Gaussian or a raised-cosine (RC) Ansatz. For the input pulses of dispersion-managed optical fiber transmission systems we consider a RC profile and show that RC return-to-zero pulses are as effective as Gaussian pulses in high-speed (160-Gbits/s) long-distance transmissions.

Realistic Tri-Bi-Maximal neutrino mixing

2018

We propose a generalized version of the Tri-Bi-Maximal (TBM) ansatz for lepton mixing, leading to non-zero reactor angle $\theta_{13}$ and CP violation. The latter is characterized by two CP phases. The Dirac phase affecting neutrino oscillations is nearly maximal ($\delta_{CP} \sim \pm \pi/2$), while the Majorana phase implies narrow allowed ranges for the neutrinoless double beta decay amplitude. The solar angle $\theta_{12}$ lies nearly at its TBM value, while the atmospheric angle $\theta_{23}$ has the TBM value for maximal $\delta_{CP}$. Neutrino oscillation predictions can be tested in present and upcoming experiments.

Neutrino Unification

2000

Present neutrino data are consistent with neutrino masses arising from a common seed at some ``neutrino unification'' scale $M_X$. Such a simple theoretical ansatz naturally leads to quasi-degenerate neutrinos that could lie in the electron-volt range with neutrino mass splittings induced by renormalization effects associated with supersymmetric thresholds. In such a scheme the leptonic analogue of the Cabibbo angle $\theta_{\odot}$ describing solar neutrino oscillations is nearly maximal. Its exact value is correlated with the smallness of $\theta_{reactor}$. These features agree both with latest data on the solar neutrino spectra and with the reactor neutrino data. The two leading mass-ei…

A detailed analysis ofD-,D s - andB-meson transition form factors and the determination of |V cb |

1990

We study various transition form factors in semi-leptonic decays ofD-,Ds-,B- andBs-mesons using the pole dominance assumption. The vector current form factor is found to have only a negligible contribution to the decay rates involving pseudoscalar to vector transitions. In view of this fact we evaluate the form factors from present experimental data on the exclusive semi-leptonic decay rateΓ and the ratioΓl/ΓT of the longitudinal and transverse partial decay rates. Some non-leptonic two-body decay rates are also investigated using the factorization ansatz. Consistency with the semi-leptonic decays is found. The transition form factors of theD- andDs-mesons are found to contradict the predic…

Statistical mechanics of the NLS models and their avatars

2006

“In Vishnuland what avatar? Or who in Moscow (Leningrad) towards the czar [1]”. The different manifestations (avatars) of the Nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS models) are described including both classical and quantum integrable cases. For reasons explained the sinh-Gordon and sine-Gordon models, which can be interpreted as covariant manifestations of the ‘repulsive’ and ‘attractive’ NLS models, respectively, are chosen as generic models for the statistical mechanics. It is shown in the text how the quantum and classical free energies can be calculated by a method of functional integration which uses the classical action-angle variables on the real line with decaying boundary conditions,…
