Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi altered the hypericin, pseudohypericin, and hyperforin content in flowers of Hypericum perforatum grown under contrastin…

2016

St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) is a perennial herb able to produce water-soluble active ingredients (a.i.), mostly in flowers, with a wide range of medicinal and biotechnological uses. However, information about the ability of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) to affect its biomass accumulation, flower production, and concentration of a.i. under contrasting nutrient availability is still scarce. In the present experiment, we evaluated the role of AMF on growth, flower production, and concentration of bioactive secondary metabolites (hypericin, pseudohypericin, and hyperforin) of H. perforatum under contrasting P availability. AMF stimulated the production of aboveground biomass und…

Die Elimination von Hydroxyäthylstärke 200/0,5, Dextran 40 und Oxypolygelatine

1982

After withdrawal of 400 ml whole blood and subsequent infusion of 500 ml of a colloidal plasma substituent, the intravascular and renal colloid elimination was investigated in 40 test subjects. The individual colloidal solutions could no longer be demonstrated in the intravascular space after the following times: 10% hydroxyethyl starch 200/0.5 (anthrone method) after six weeks, 10% dextran 40 (anthrone method) after two weeks, 6% hydroxyethyl starch 200/0.5 (anthrone method) after four weeks and 5.5% oxypolygelatine (hydroxyproline method) after two days. Colloidal plasma substitutes are polydisperse solutions with various molecular weights and degree of hydroxyethylation and therefore, al…

Fluorescent substituted amidines of benzanthrone: synthesis, spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations.

2012

Abstract Several new substituted amidine derivatives of benzanthrone were synthesized by a condensation reaction from 3-aminobenzo[de]anthracen-7-one and appropriate aromatic and aliphatic amides. The obtained derivatives have a bright yellow or orange fluorescence in organic solvents and in solid state. The novel benzanthrone derivatives were characterized by TLC analysis, 1H NMR, IR, MS, UV/vis, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The solvent effect on photophysical behaviors of these dyes was investigated, and the results showed that the Stoke’s shift increased, whereas quantum yield decreased with the growth of the solvent polarity. The structure of some dyes was confirmed by the X-ray singl…

Inhibition of the mutagenicity of 2-nitrofluorene, 3-nitrofluoranthene and 1-nitropyrene by flavonoids, coumarins, quinones and other phenolic compou…

1997

When 56 flavonoids, 32 coumarins, five naphthoquinones, 12 anthraquinones and five structurally-related compounds were tested for their antimutagenic potencies with respect to mutagenicities induced by 2-nitrofluorene (2-NF), 3-nitrofluoranthene (3-NFA) and 1-nitropyrene (1-NP) in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 distinct structure-activity relationships were detected. First, the tetracyclic nitroarenes 3-NFA and 1-NP were in general more effectively antagonized by potent antimutagenic flavonoids and coumarins than the tricyclic 2-NF, while there were only minor differences with quinones. Secondly, antimutagenicity of natural compounds of plant origin correlated with the aglyconic nature 10 of a…

Joziknipholones A and B: The First Dimeric Phenylanthraquinones, from the Roots ofBulbine frutescens

2007

From the roots of the African plant Bulbine frutescens (Asphodelaceae), two unprecedented novel dimeric phenylanthraquinones, named joziknipholones A and B, possessing axial and centrochirality, were isolated, together with six known compounds. Structural elucidation of the new metabolites was achieved by spectroscopic and chiroptical methods, by reductive cleavage of the central bond between the monomeric phenylanthraquinone and -anthrone portions with sodium dithionite, and by quantum chemical CD calculations. Based on the recently revised absolute axial configuration of the parent phenylanthraquinones, knipholone and knipholone anthrone, the new dimers were attributed to possess the P-co…

Breaking Bonds and Forming Nanographene Diradicals with Pressure.

2017

New anthanthrone-based polycyclic scaffolds possessing peripheral crowed quinodimethanes have been prepared. While the compounds adopt a closed-shell butterfly shaped structure in the ground state, a concave-to-convex fluxional dynamic inversion is accessible with a low energy barrier through an open-shell diradicaloid transition-state. Mainly driven by the release of strainattributed to the steric hindrance at the peri position of the anthanthrone core, a low-lying open-shell diradical is accessible through planarization of the core, which can be achieved by thermal excitation in solution. Alternatively, planarization can be achieved by application of mild pressure in the solid state, in w…

PHA Latex Composite Films: Mechanical Properties and Surface Visualization

2013

Homopolymer PHB and copolymer PHB/HV containing granules were isolated from Azotobacter chroococcum cells and used for latexes formation. Composite latex films were formed from the PHB and PHB/HV latexes with different content of poly (vinyl alcohol) and glycerol and a hydrophobic fluorescent benzanthrone derivated dye 3-piperidinobenzanthrone, possessed high fluorescence intensity in a system with PHA granules. Fluorescence based methods were used for characterization of the elaborated latex film by their stability at high temperature and for visualization of the film surfaces PHA granules distribution. Film stability in phosphate buffered saline was evaluated by dye migration activity in …

The inhibition by naphthoquinones and anthraquinones of 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5- f  ]quinoline metabolic activation to a mutagen: a structure-act…

1998

Nine naphthoquinones, 19 anthraquinones, and nine structurally related monoketonic compounds such as anthrone, xanthone, etc., inhibited mutagenicity induced by 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ) in Salmonella typhimurium TA 98 in the presence of rat liver S9 with distinct structure-activity relationships. A carbonyl function was a prerequisite for antimutagenicity while, in general, anthraquinones (IC50 values: 2.3–>213 nmol/ml top agar) were more potent antimutagens than structurally related monoketonic compounds (IC50 values: 25.3–94.9 nmol/ml top agar) and naphthoquinones (IC50 values: 3.7–90.7 nmol/ml top agar). The parent compounds and methyl substituted derivatives were alr…
